behringer composer pro xl..
just bought one.
i own a whack of software compressors and dessers and etc.
but this is my first hardware dynamics processor.

anybody use this one, and if so what do you use it on?
what sucks about it?
why does it rule?
thanx.

I've got one but use it more as a live than a recording tool - actually it saw most use in the rehearsal room where it flattered the sound a little and made people more confident. Can't imagine why you'd use it in preference to plug ins unless you wanted to tame some dynamics on the way in. Using a hardware compressor will let you run your tracking a little hotter.

Funny thing about home recording is that buying the kit costs but learning what it does by experimenting is free.......:)

I've used one for recording and it works great for soft compression. You don't want to use to much of it or you'll know its there. Let you ears be the judge. When the sound is start to lose dynamic and get muddy you need to back off.

thanx fellas!
yeah i basicaly bought it for use of compressing bass (before or after) the ART tube mp for direct bass stuff.
i appriciate the tips, and i figured, HEY if it dosent work in the studio ill just use it for our live sound stuff!

thanx alot.

yeah i got the plugs, but the dsp can get short at times.
im tryin to experiment with getting the best sounds off the bat.
it seems like ive been doing too much surgery in the box lately.
i dont wanna be a plug in co dependant at all times...
peace.

so how's it going with that compressor? I see it for $110 and it's got me thinking about it, but I already have one cheap compressor so I'm not sure, maybe I should got for a dbx or something....

They are kind of blah, lack luster...fair but certianly not good.

i own the composer pro and use it in recordings and vocals. its useful to me because some of the people i record are volume handicapped. they'll be loud one minute and then get quiet the next trying to put some "feeling" in it as one guy put it. i know its not the best but if i keep dealing with these vocal retards...its best right where it is. and besides sound runs through it so its not like it has to be turned on all the time.
