Musicians friend sells a Behringer 4 channel mixer (2 xlr, 2 stero line) for $110. Would this give me better mic pre's and eq than my Tascam 414 cassette machine? It seems like it could be very beneficial, especially for the price. Anyone?

Get an Art Tube Pack--Preamp and compressor.
Great sound-decent price!

I've been meaning to ask...Everyone on here agrees that the Art Tube MP is great. No one has said anything about the Tubepac. Is it the SAME mic pre, plus a compressor? Or is it different. The only reason I don't like the idea of the Art Tube Mp is cause it isn't rack mountable. The tubepac is.

Info anyone?

Pretty sure the Tube Pac has same pre plus
great tube compressor-limiter and phantom
power--at least that's what their ads said.
Rock On!

Actually, I rather like this little Behringer. I have one that I use a whole lot, and the preamps are incredible for the size. They're the same preamps as in their larger mixers, but the cool thing is that since the thing is so small and has less electronic components and a smaller power source, the S/N ratio is actually less than the bigger mixers!

If you want to hear it in action, check out the vocals and guitars on "Say A Prayer" at my mp3.com website at http://mp3.com/37point5/

I have to agree with 37point5!! I have the one-step-up, slightly larger version of the Behrigner mixer in question. I get terrific sound out of mine. I don't have a single complaint about it..pre amp or otherwise. AND IT'S QUIET AS HELL!!

I don't get any noise in my recordings. I have a Mackie that's about twice as large, and I only use it if I can't fit everything into my little behrigner.

Don't let the size fool you. It's just small...not small quality.

coincidentally, my name is Ryan too.

Behringer is all I use for mixing! I actually realy like the pre's, they abso-f***ing-lutly kill Mackey's pre's. I have one of their 20 channel rack boards and one of their bigger desks and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Glad you liken 'em. I haven't any Behringer gear myself so I don't have any comment about 'em, but I really doubt I'D be very happy with Behringer; and MOST people I've talked to who've had plenty of experience with both Mackie and Behringer board, would always go for a Mackie if they were to buy one themselves.

I thought I'd be completely satisfied with my Mackie when I fisrt got it; and I was. I couldn't any diference. Well after about a year, I was pretty disappointed.

I'd take a lot of things over Mackie in the studio. But in live performance, I'd spend my money elsewhere before buying anything more expensive than a Mackie. I actually even prefer them for live applications.
