I've got a computer with a soundblaster LiVE soundcard and I've got i nice 5-piece drumkit. I wonder if it's possible to record the drums in cubase with a couple of microphones, and get a decent sound.
Do I need some kind of mixer between the computer and the microphones and how many microphones do I need?
The main problem when I'm recording is to get rid of the disturbance.

I don't know anything about this kind of things and I would be grateful for your help.

there is a thread in this section called "how to get fat drums fast with three mics" this is a good approach to drum micing... maybe a small mixer would help, i'm not hugely familiar with the SB live card and the number of inputs on, but lets assume its two, then you would pan left overhead hard left, and right over head hard right and balance the bd between the two..... i don't know your financial situation or your proximity to a music store, but we usually just hire a good bass drum mic for $5aud ($3usd) over the weekend, but if your loaded with cash get a good mixer some nice pre's an outboard gate and compressor fifty billion mics and stands a multi input soundcard (like the hoontech c-port) and experiment.... actaully experiment is the key word, even if you only have two mics and no mixer experiment with the placement... no matter what advice anyopne gives you, you will have to decide the best arangment for your needs

hope i've been helpful

Thank you!

I've also heard something abut using a minidisk when you're recording. I've got a Sony MZ-R900 MD.
Can I use that for recording or is it useless?

thats beyond the reach of my small brain, sorry, but maybe?

Mini disk is just another format for recording. No reason not to use it. How many ins it has will determine how many mics you can cover the drums with. If you had a small mixer with 6 channels, you could have 6 mics on your drums and feed the signal straight to your computer/cubase.
Are you planning to record drums only?

Do you have any microphones? if so, what microphones?

If you need a small mixer, I'd suggest you check out the Spirit Folio Notepad (made by Soundcraft) on www.jam.se. It's yours for 2000:- That's a really nice mixer that'll allow you to record drums with 2 overheas, kick and snare-mics.
If you need overhead-mics, I'd suggest Line Audio CM2, also from JAM. They cost 1200:- each, and are very nice microphones.
