Been a While

Once again I'll just say that my feeble mind is not quite able to comprehend your musical style. :)

It sure has been a long time since you've posted a new song. This one seems a bit more raw than what we usually hear from you. Very basic sounding samples. The only sample that I don't like at all is the hi-hat, but the others sound pretty good.

I like the little break at 0:33 a lot. I also like the portion after the drums quit at 1:09.

There's a really cool line that starts at 1:27 and stops at 1:40...that's a really nifty sounding sample. What is it?

Thanks for checking it out Slack. Now get back to the Comp CD.... :D
This one wasn't meant to be polished. It's a mood piece. Yup- raw is a good way to describe it.
The sound you refer to is a combination of a vibraphone patch and a bassoon patch.

I like the way Winamp loops while you write about the tune.

Nice tune, drstawl. Hey, look - if Ed can play producer, then so can I. He isn't famous yet, and neither am I, so fair's fair. I'm your producer, okay?

First, I had the same old problem trying to download it from your site. I had no problems at all getting it from Nowhere Radio. The conclusion I'd draw is that if you're paying anybody real money for that site, then 'value for money' is not a term that applies. But, hey, why listen to me - I'm just your producer...

Next, can you buy a volume pedal for that contraption you play? I mean, will you? It would add a seriously funky dimension to what's going on, not to mention plunging you into a whole new realm of experience that could only stimulate creativity. But, then, why listen to me - I'm just your producer...

Finally, you're a bit like me - you play fast stuff a lot of the time. Did you ever listen to The Basement Tapes? There's this interesting thing that happens there - the Band plays without Dylan and they play like fuck; Dylan joins them, and everything slows down and gets kind of, I don't know, majestic or something, like he's got aaalllllll the time in the world. You and me need to learn that Dylan thing. But then, I'm just your producer, right...?

Never mind, I probably got all this wrong. But at least Slack got it right - he has a feeble mind. :D

Thanks for producing! Don't the producers pay for the "entertainment committee" that hangs out in my trailer between shows? Nice job, there!

I do have a sustain pedal that came with the Yamaha kybd but I'm not really used to using it.

When you mentioned "Basement Tapes" I at first thought you were talking about my very early CD, "Basement Tapes from the Second Floor". Hmmmm, Dylan didn't play on that one?

All I can say about the poor server service is that it's been worse than usual this past few weeks and I don't pay anything extra to get the server space.

So far I can't convince Waldo to allow a delete function and the unfixable screw-ups on my page are just piling up. The only way to fix this is to e-mail him and have him delete the mistakes manually. I tried his suggestion of just overwriting a previous entry but that didn't work. That sure sucks!! He says it's a security issue that he hasn't worked out yet....

drstawl,

I now know the way around the 'security issue' but it will take loads of development time... But don't worry, I'm taking a huge risk and quitting my day-job the end of October, going to work on NoWhere full time (including outside services which I already do).

So, there'll be alot of features and programs offered on NoWhere relatively soon, and I'll be getting more sleep and won't be so bitchy.

Waldo_ I feel you're so busy trying to make this site "right" I feel guilty asking you to clean up what i could clean up on my own.

And I don't have much confidence that you'd have time to get around to it.

Just keep at it and we'll meet somewhere in the middle down the road.

Doc, I just don't know what to say about your music. I never do. I think the biggest compliment I can give it is that I always download your stuff when I see you have a new one. I look forward to the event.

On a side note...how come you don't play guitar to any of this stuff? Do you write seperate "guitar" music, or have you just never felt the need for a guitar in there? I'm not saying you need to add guitar, just that I know you play and I don't recall hearing a guitar on anything you've posted. Am I wrong on this and just don't know it?

Nope, you're not wrong. He hasn't reinvented himself yet, that's all. He's cheated death, though. One step at a time...

Well- "wrong" would be too strong a term. You're mostly right, even if you are wrong, technically. :)

It's not too common an occurrence for me to get a hankering to throw a guitar track in with one of my synth pieces. But I have two of them on my web-page as well as two solo guitar pieces.

I tried to download it from your @home site, and it bombed after 400K. Which one is it on nowhere radio? It's listed there twice!

It's the second one. Someday my page will look presentable once I have ordinary access to editing the various fields.

Another interesting one. I like the synth piano thing in the left channel. My only comment would be to move the hi-hat more center or even opposite, and move the toms to the right, let the melody come out. I find the hats distracting over the piano. I like the opening ascending riff you got there. Nice job.

Nowhere radio worked fine, I didn't know you couldn't delete songs after uploading. Will have to be very careful I suppose.

This is a cool tune.... Sounds like something Charles Ives would do if he had a drum machine.
