Sounds great rami!

A very solid, full mix...well balanced. I too really liked the myriad changes, particularly the mellower part towards the middle. You use a 24 track tascam, yes?

I wish I could've heard music like this when my wife and I went to montreal in july. What a kick ass city!..but, every bar I walked past reeked of cologne and appeared to be packed with euro-stylin' metrosexual men. Either that, or well dressed elderly people listening to jazz piano. Do they have normal bars there that have live rock bands?

Good to see you back, Duder! You had me worried. It's not like you to disappear like that. Glad to see all is ok.

I love the beginning. The transitions are really neat. Nice job! Your vocals are impeccable, as usual. Harmonies are perfect. This is a different sound for you and it fits you good! There's something different about the drum sound that I can't quite put my finger on. Nothing bad, just different than I'm used to hearing from you.

You, sir, are a writing/recording/producing machine!
Hey Jeff!!!! How's it going, man??? Thanx alot, buddy. Yes, it was rough not being able to record all summer. It did give me alot of time to work on the tune, though.

Thanx Heat. Yes, I use a TASCAM 2488.

To be honest, since I stopped playing in bars, I don't go out to them any more. But I know that Montreal sucks for good rock clubs now. Still a great city and great women, but the downtown scene is very "trendy" in a Europeen sense. The best times are to be had at house parties, as opposed to clubs. :)

I think the kick sounds fine, but the vocals are a little weak sounding maybe? Not singing wise, but volume wise.

I like the overall feel and sound, very different and musical.

Now this is probably just a matter of personal preference but on the drums I have one thing. The toms, when you do fills I can't hear any actual tone from them, all I hear is attack. That might have been what you were going for though, it kinda works for this song and style. I'm just a person who really likes full bodies toms.

Either way, you're very talented and I've heard allot of different sounds come from you. I love the sound of the electric guitar in the mix, cool.

Really??? Still??? I'll have to let it sit for a while and go back and listen. Right now, I feel my vocals are loud, but I'll have to listen through fresh ears in a few weeks.

No, you're absolutely right there. It was deliberate for this song. In case nobody noticed, I pretty much ripped off "Band on the Run" structure-wise. And, while listening to that song, I dug the dead toms, so I muffled mine for this tune. You got good ears, man.

I really appreciate that, James. Thanx a lot!!!!

Thanx alot, Rocketman. I feel bad that I couldn't contribute any drums to your tunes. As you can see, it wasn't for lack of wanting to. I wasn't able to record all summer.
Don't worry about that! Your stuff is so superior to what I do anyhow. But there are future projects and since I can't record drums (or play them the way you Dave or Greg does), I am sure that I will have a need in the future that you can get in on.

By the way, the dead toms were perfect IMHO...

Cool, thanx man!:)

Totally beautiful, Rami.....
this has so many influences in it, it sounds totally original. This is music with meaning! Great voice, great arrangement, great recording. Incredible how much good music there is on this site.....

Cheers

Thanx alot, Joey. I really appreciate that.

As long as you're mentioning influences, I think I ripped off "Band on the Run" pretty blatantly, structure-wise. There are other 3-part tunes, like "Evie" by Stevie Wright, but I had been listening to a lot of McCartney for the first time in my life lately. :)

"Evie, Evie, Evie let your hair hang down".
Russel Morris's Real Thing b/w part Three & the Paper Walls too.
RAMI, this song grows with each play - - stupendous.
How did you survive a whole season without rock'n?

Very nice, I like the song writing quite a lot! One thing that bothered me that hasn't been mentioned is the lead slide guitar is a bit flat. Starting at the solo all the way through the end, that particular guitar is just slightly flat. Very impressive, thanks for sharing.

It was hard. But I did work on this tune a lot while I couldn't record. And I have a pool. :)

Thanx alot micah...You're probably right about the slide being flat, but I can't blame it on anything but my technique. I'm sure the guitar's in tune, but I'm still very new at the slide and I'm probably not going right over the fret like I should be. Thanx alot for that. It's something I'll watch out for.

Man... Everything sounds really good here - especially those vocals. I mean, the drums sound great - and I would normally elaborate on that, but vocals this pleasant to listen to are rare. I really wish they were a hell of a lot louder, in fact, I found myself reaching to my mixing board... I guess maybe to turn them up to listen more closely to what's going on there. I don't think I've ever subconsciously tried to mix an mp3 like that before... maybe I'm just too tired, heh. I'd love to hear this with louder vocals, though, if you make another mix.

The only negative thing I would say is I *think* I hear something weird on the guitars at the beginning - something unnatural sounding. Maybe it's a weird reverb tail I'm hearing. Did you use reverb on them? It's like 6 in the morning and I'm at home, though, and don't feel like waking my wife, so I'm listening at an extremely low level here... The lowest level lights on the mainout meter on this mixer aren't even lighting, heh...that's how quiet it is, so I could be totally imagining this "possibly weird reverb tail sound". I'll post again tomorrow if I remember to do so.

I can confidently say that I think the clap sample over your snare is corny sounding. It literally made me chuckle hearing it, like it was a joke.

That said, I feel like I shouldn't be giving any negative feedback at all, to be honest, because those vocals kick so much ass it's like they overrule the M.C.Hammer clap (and possible odd sounding intro guitar reverb tail), and they even overrule their own low level in the mix. :D

P.S. I am actually going to not delete this file - it just found it's way into my playlist - thanks for sharing!

Thanx alot, Hippo.

Let me know how it sounds if you get a chance to listen to it at normal volume.

As far as the hand claps are concerned, you don't have to like them...But don't you dare call it a sample. Those are my hands clapping for about 6 tracks.

:D :D :D

Nice old-school tune, for sho.
Good job, RAMI!

Peace!

That's hilarious. Oops? :p

Just listened again at full (normal listening) volume, and I don't hear what I thought I did earlier... lol, guess my underslept mind was playing tricks on me. The vocals sound even better than I remembered... They eerily remind me of something/someone very popular that I can't put my finger on who it is (I mean that in a good way).

Just out of curiousity - what kind of bass is that in this tune? The tone sounds Fenderish, I think (which I also mean in a good way). Either way - Good bass tone is rare, too...good job on that, too!

Hey guys,

I haven't been able to record for a while, due to a few plumbing mishaps. :(

Finally got set up to record. The room's still new to me, and I moved everything around, so this is really the first time recording in this room...again. :)

This is kind of a weird song, I guess. It's got 3 pretty much un-related parts. But I hope it works. A neighbor had a 12-string that he wanted me to re-string for him, so I took the opportunity to record with it. But, since I had to play it up-side-down, I kept it to a minimum. :D

I need help with the mix. I can't tell any more if the drums are too loud, or if the overheads are too loud, but the kik is too low, etc....

Thanx and peace out.:D

RISE UP (parts 3,5,9)

Good to see you back in the saddle... :) Kick is fine... Snare has a lttle tiny bit of artificial midrange presence to my ears... As do the rhythm guitar parts. Might just be a choice, but I'm referenceing your last as a mental baseline.... I'm thinking it might not be a bad thing, it's a specific sound, amnd it adds some power-poppiness to it... LOVED the fill with the slurred 7s in the middle section...

Love the segues! Lead vox at about the midpoint could be beefier a smidge...

Otherwise, it be happenin'!

Thanx a lot. I have to say that I get a lot of comments on my bass tone, and I don't know what to say. I plug my IBANEZ left handed bass into my TASCAM 2488, and pick it as hard as I can. I then add a litle bit of compression during mix-down.

Hey Phil!!!! Great to see you around. It seems to be the consensus that I STILL have to bring up the vocals. It's nice to hear from you, brother.
Rami, how are you getting that slide sound?

Do want.
I just used the same sound I use for my leads. I used 2 different sounds on this. In the solo of the 3rd part, I used the bridge pick-up. In the background of the 2nd part, I used my neck pick-up. Same with the little fills at the very end of the song....neck pick-up. Fuck, slide is hard to play in tune.
Fucking excellent. Transcendent vocals on this one, bro. Stars are lining up.
Thanx, man. Knowing my luck, they're going to line up just in time for me to get cancer.
