Been a long time since I have posted a mix!

Thanks Cyan. I almost think though that the loudness was at the expense of a little openness in the low end! Oh well, it is just a demo, and we didn't once reference the mix, nor play other CD's to compare too while we were mixing.

The snare certainly didn't start out that way. We were actually fretting about it at first. I decided to try a Plate verb with a VERY short decay via one of the O2R's effects and after I got the predelay and high cut just right, you hear the result! The other engineer just loved the sound, so we stuck with it. That, and a Compander on the snare track (top mic...we ditched the bottom mic....) along with the overheads with a very selective and narrow cut around 1K and a room mic that stayed flat, were the combination that worked that day. Me and the drummer agreed thought that we would have preferred to get a little deeper of a snare sound for the song, but it was tracked with a piccalo snare, so there wasn't much to work with in that regards.

That ADK mic is a life saver with that particular singer! He sounds very, I don't know, a combination of dull and harsh with all the other mics that were tried on him (AT 4033 and 4050, AKG 414, Nuemann U87). This mic just seems to pull out the better qualities in his voice. The Oram sure is a life saver too!!! It is one fine sounding preamp, and the EQ on it is just delicious to the ear!!! With the Drawmer behind it mellowing everything out in a very invisible way, and the purity Monster Studio Pro 1000 and Studio Link 500 offers, the signal path is right up there with any studios. If I could get a decent analog console in that studio to mix on instead of the O2R, I think it could be improved a bit more too! We will see how much better the 24 bit converters on the HD24 will perform when tracking this guy. That vocal track, along all the guitars and bass were tracked on XT-20's, and I am hearing a bit better resolution on the HD24 tracks in comparison. We are trying to figure out how to afford a word clock for the studio to give it all that extra edge, but man, times are tough!!!

GenX6 for about $400 at Mercenary. It made a huge difference in my rig.

power pop

Sounded a bit like the Tories to me, or maybe a int of the "Merrymakers" in there. I thought it sounded pretty good, though a bit thin on the bottom and the bass had a few "floaty" moments around the solo section.

Only rel complaint is that the word "wide" is questionable in places as far as tuning is concerned.

Also, I'm using a DSP Factory card, so I've gotten familiar with the O2R sound to a certain extent, since they share much the same mixing engine.

Another, yes, another talented group.
I listened to it several times, Sonusman.
It kinda grows on ya, even though it sinks it's teeth in from the very beginning.
Nice Job.

Damn Ed!
