Beck is cool, gets some unique sounds out of his axe, technique, but those sounds can only hold interest for so long.

Clapton is certainly good, but he's too safe. He never seemed to break any new ground....played like a middle aged guy far too soon, competent, professional, scared to take any chances out of fear of playing a wrong note.

Page, while at times somewhat sloppy, he played with a sort of reckless abandon, reminiscent of youth, which at least at one time was what rock-n-roll was all about. He might have hit a wrong note or two, but also hit all the right ones, in varying styles,...with at least a pinch of blues influence in virtually all of it.

The only one who can slay me is Page. Think---> Tea For One.

This defines it for me: Beck can do things the others do, the others can't do what Beck can do.

I agree with Moobie that Beck does some pretty freaky stuff especially with his tremolo fluttering, but he wasn't always that inclusive of weirdness, at least not to the point he is now. Page is my second favorite because he is so originally diverse as a player and writer. I've come to warm up to Clapton a little over the years, but still am not a big fan.
