Hey all.

So, I used to make beats in Cubase by simply cutting, copying and pasting individual wav files into whatever structure (ie different wav files for the kick, snare, hats etc etc) and was more than happy doing it like this.

Now I have gone and purchased Battery 3 as I wanted access to the crap load of different kits etc. However, I’m finding that after years of making beats this way and getting it down to a fine art, I find it really difficult and frustrating to shape my beats through a midi controller and Battery (and just using midi tracks for beat making applications in general!).

My question – is there any other way to utilize my library of Battery beats without having to trigger them through midi and edit in the midi piano roll? Like, is it possible to access these sounds as they’re individual wav files so I can do it like the old days??? I can’t seem to find them on my hard drive in this form, I assume it is some sort of file type specific to Battery that means you cant do what I wanna do, and can only use them through the Battery VSTI…?

OR – should I be making these beats in EZDrummer (which I don’t have nor do I really know what it is, I’ve just seen it mentioned a few times here) or something similar???

I hope this makes sense!

Cheers

Copy and paste may have worked for you till now but its better if you start using a midi controller , oxygen 49 .

I use reason and its basically using the midi controller to play the music and its much better and fun in my opinion.

I can't answer your question, but FL Studio kicks serious butt for beat-making. Check it out.

doesnt Cubase come with a step sequencer?

that way the track is continually playing while you build up the drum parts..its what you need I think

if it doesnt Id suggest izotopes iDrum...its $60 and you can load your battery wave files into it, or any drum wave files...you can also send the drums to separate channels in cubase to add effects, compression etc

I find piano roles tedious and better for writing midi clips for acoustic drums..for electronic and/or urban nothing beat a step sequencer imho

groove agent...thats a step sequencer in cubase???

Oh, and did I mention a step sequencer is built into the interface? Just load your samples and blast off. It also comes with a kickass slicer.

cheers kcearl, unfortunately i got a limited version of cubase so i dont have those plugins, soon i will upgrade though so i'll start experimenting with that...

JasonJohnson, i agree man. I loved doing the ol copy n paste method, but i have a lot more creative freedom doing it sequenced...
what do you mean when you say make my own samples / audio files? i have a plethora of samples with Battery etc, I want to utilise these. I just cant find the wav files...?!?

found the wavs. the default installations folders are very weird locations!
