Hi,

I'm planning on buying a Yamaha RB170 Bass guitar, but I do not have the money to buy a descent cab yet, so I fugured it would be better to buy a 100W cab when I got the funds for it, rather than buying a 20W cab right now...

What I want to ask is: can I run the bass through my mixing board into my speakers? Should I just plug it into a mic preamp, or should I use a DI-box to plug it into a normal mono channel?

What would be you recommendation?

The mixer is a Behringer Eurorack UB1204PRO

Stan.

You'll get a better sound with a DI-box than going straight into the board.

I'm a huge fan of the SansAmp Bass Driver. It's a DI box + tube emulator. It's probably more than you're looking for right now, but I suggest getting one off ebay of you can afford it.

All the bass in the songs at my link below was recorded direct into the board via SansAmp Bass Driver. Where applicable, the bass was in passive electronics mode to let the SansAmp do the tonal work.
