I have been playing bass for a few years!! Recently (as in 1yr ago), I began getting interested in plaing guitar aswell!! My mind constantly clashes with the two!! If I play bass for a bit, I can't get my chord changes going fast enough! If I play guitar for a bit, I can't get my fingers to walk like they can normally!! Is there an inbetween?!? Is there a way I can have the pleasure of playing both with a short period of time between them?!? I'm just wondering if anyone has some transitional exercises (sp) to get used to the go between!
I guess that while I'm doing this I mind aswell ask for some other advice!! Would anyone be able to recommend an exercise or something to help learn and/or create guitar solos?!? I'm trying, but I just can't figure out how to make anything I try to play as my own solo sound good!! I was also (yeah, I know, bore snore) wondering if anyone had any pointers on bass solos, slapping, and "popping"
One last thing... lol ... Does anyone have any pointers on how to play the music in your head?!? I try and try!! I've wrote many songs... well, the lyrics anyways... but I can't get the music!! I realize that most of what I've asked is all up to me, but anything... anything at all will help!! ThX!! :-)

Play guitar and bass everyday.
Be sure to use all four fingers.

As for solos, learn scales. For rock, country, or any variation therein, learn the major and minor pentatonic. then learn it in all five positions. Later on move to the major and minor scales and eventually modes.

People say scales stifle creativity. If you aren't creative enough to BREAK the rules and play outside of the scales, than your creativity isn't their to be stifled. So learn the rules, then break em.

Why not play bass & guit at the same time...Ever heard of Local H? On his guit he has a pick up that only picks up the low E & A strings. That P-U has a seperate output which he runs through some octave pedal. Thus, creating the guit/bass. I would only recommend this if you have a cheapish guitar with single coil P-U' s. It is great trick for people who use power chords.
