I want to play a new bass thru a 15 w fender frontman guitar amp. The frontman is completely sealed in the back. I think this makes a difference and it is OK to do. I'm just trying to save a few bucks, Am I ok with this

you're talking about those little practice combo amps? plug it in and find out. the worst that can happen (someone correct me if i'm wrong here...) is that it will sound crappy. but i'm almost positive you're not going to damage anything doing this, unless you're just cranking the amp. i certainly wouldn't play any gigs with it, though...

Yes, this is a practice amp. It is selaed in the back though which I was told was unusual and would allow me to play the bass thru it without causing damage to the amp.

The speaker in that amp most likely isn't really made for the frequencies a bass pushes. I'd be real easy on the volume for fear of blowing it out.

Boy, you could say THAT again. I really wouldn't play a bass through that thing at anything louder than a whisper. Definitely not recommended.

You will get a lot better results from a small bass amp. Guitar amps just aren't designed (especialy the speakers) to handle the lower frequencies of bass. If you crank it up you will risk blowing the speaker, although low volume isn't likely to cause any damage.

Using a guitar amp for bass is pretty much only really viable as an option for practicing by yourself. If you're working with anybody or anything, you risk getting too loud and blowing your amp up.

I would recommend getting some cheap $50 bass amp if you're going to practice with anyone else.

Back before I had a bass amp, I used to run my bass through my Peavey Classic 50 410 for recording (running it clean, of course). I figured that since the Classic 50 410 was kinda like a Fender Bassman, it might sound ok...and it did. However, I did run it at low volume.

But I have a feeling that if you run it through that little Fender Frontman at anything that hints at being loud, that speaker won't be around for long.

Look around on ebay for a little Peavey Minx or something.

remember, with a closed box there is more air movement in it. Therefore more pressure is being put on the speaker. I used bass once on my fender 15watt practice amp, not very much, at no more than half way volume, it blew, might have been from playing with lots of distortion and metal riffs with my guitar.

i blew out a speaker in a guitar cab doing this, i had even cut as much of the low frequencies as i possibly could but it was still shot

remember, also guitar speakers and bass speakers are also made to move differently.
