OK, here it is, in reference to this thread:

http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=2253978

I am too busy to come up with my own backing track, so we'll steal apl's track from his last RUMBLE! :D

http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=4986

There are three rules this time, sorry I know that's one more than the usual two:

1) You have to use the backing track in some manner. Shifting pitch, tempo, editing, etc., it's all good as long as the source is the backing track. There is no specific length requirement.

2) this is the special rule for this RUMBLE!: The soloing must consistent of only bass tapping, bass harmonics, and bass chords. No slap 'n' tickle, pluck, pop, or anything else that is not tapping, harmonics, or chords allowed! If you break this rule . . . . you will suffer the consequence of my derision!

3) Traditionally, the winner is determined by arguing! That also applies to the interpretation of rules #1 and #2!

My entry will be posted later tonight!

Ready . . . . go!!!!! :)

I have my bass and access to the church sound system....

Maybe I can do something later on this week.

Dude that will kick ass! Crank the bass through the sound system, and set up a mic in the middle of the sanctuary! :D

apl . . . I know you got a bass, too

Now we need to drag QQ and ez out of the Cave, and I know lbanks must be lurking nearby :)

Mention this thread in the other one and see how many of them bite off on it!

Well just in case it wasn't clear that rule #2 was tongue-in-cheek . . . it doesn't have to be ALL tapping :D really anything played on a bass instrument is good . . . tuba, bassoon, kick drum . . . whatever you got ;)

But it would be nice to hear those right hands (or left if you're goofy) on those fingerboards

What's tapping?
Tapping (also known as fingertapping) is a fast playing technique generally associated with electric guitar (although the technique may be performed on almost any string instrument). It may be considered an extended technique. Tapping is executed by using the fingers of one hand to "tap" the strings against the fingerboard, sounding notes.

Tapping usually incorporates pull-offs as well, where the finger that just struck the fingerboard to sound a note is then swept off with enough lateral motion to sound that same string again — this time on a lower note than the tap (fretted by another finger before the pull-off, or simply left open).

The Chapman Stick is an instrument built primarily for tapping, and is based on a two-handed tapping technique invented in 1969 by Emmett Chapman where each hand approaches the fretboard with the fingers aligned parallel to the frets. The NS/Stick and Warr guitar are also built for tapping, though not exclusively. Both instruments use lower string tension and low action to increase the string's sensitivity to lighter tapping.

There are two main methods of tapping: one-handed or "ordinary" tapping, and two-handed tapping.

Think of Stu Hamm's "Linus and Lucy"....

Does your definition of "tapping" include the gratuitous hammer-ons and pull-offs that follow the tap, or am I only allowed to "tap?"

Hey apl, the bass on that track is stickin' out a bit much . . . . you got any other presets? :D

Edit: never mind, a low cut at 100Hz seems to do the trick :)

It's all good :)

Sorry, I'm tapped out but will be interested to hear the results.

What about chords? C'mon, somebody can strum the bass version of "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" over this, can't they? :o
