I used to see these bass synths and think they were pretty dumb casue I am not into techno or hiphop etc, but now I'm interested in getting one.

I am hoping to be able to get a keyboard/synth sound from my distorted bass on really slow ambient parts of my music. Think this will work?

Most likely...I played around with one and I really liked it. You can get some crazy ass sounds from it. I heard Sonic Youth uses the guitar Micro Synth. It doesn't necessarily have to be techno or rap or whatever...you can use it to create a beautiful sonic mess, crazy sounding guitar noise and wild feedback...you know?

excellent! I checked out the reviews users have up on harmony-central.com.. The electro-harmonx looks to be the best bet. They say you can get MOOG sounds out of it and thats my goal so im picking one up today. yoohoo!!

The e.h is best for what you are looking for. Boss makes on but it sounds too much like hip hop/techno. If you purchase one make sure you have a couple days to mess around with it cause there are so many variables. Plus get a notebook to remember settings!

I went and checked these and the EH is defintely the one to own. The Boss is really cheesy. The EH has loads of variables and will take some time to really figure out but does have that moog keyboard sound as well.

i saw Ben Folds Five in july of last year, and Rob Sledge (bass player) had a synth running through a bass effects unit and some other rack goodies and it sounded unreal...
he was getting some bizzar sounding stuff out of it - it would be worth trying!

yes I dont really like that bands sound, but the bass player is very imaginative and fills out both the guitar and bass at the same time in that band. I went to a show of there as well just to check out his playing.
