I recently pulled out my back-up bass to make sure it's ready to gig with. It is a 1980-ish Fender Musicmaster. The bridge has begun a fairly aggressive corrosion of the crome plating and possibly more.

So as a result I have a couple of questions:

Should I take it to a repair shop to examine for other inner corrosion as well?

Has anyone ever removed their bridge and had it stripped and re-plated? Any idea of an approximate cost to have this done?

I've also done some brief reading on replacement bridges, such as a BadAss. The way that I understand it, they are made of brass for increased sustain, and are layed-out to retrofit for Fender P and J basses.

Does anyone know if this era Musicmaster has the same bridge as a P or J so if I did pick one of these up I could avoid drilling additional holes?

Sorry for the long post and varied questions but your responses are greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You can find a replacement Musicmaster Bass Bridge Bottom Plate for 29.00 at www.angela.com (you will be able to find the part on their website).
Having your bridge stripped, and replated, may cost you more than it is worth.
If I'm not mistaken, Musicmaster and Mustang (and perhaps the Bronco) Basses all used the same bridge.
You may have better luck trying to search for one of those, since the Mustang basses were pretty popular.

Take care,
Tony

badass bridges are pretty nice, not sure if they will fit or not, but you could always try

i wouldnt get your bridge fixed, it would be easier cheaper and faster to just buy a new one.
