What does THIS button do?
what would be the difference in sound between micing outside the kick and inside the kick? Say 3" away from the hole? What about 6-12" away from the hole? Thanks.

My advice would be to try it out. In general you're not going to get the beater click with an outside mic. For jazz, you might not care but if you're recording a metal drummer you better have lots of click or a sample.

see that's wierd.. that's the impression that i was under and with the v-drums it actually sounded like it had more attack than it did with the mic 'inside' but my kick always sounds like it has a lot of boom to it. or at least has. I haven't really recorded this kit yet with the way I have it tuned and whatnot but I am about to tomarrow. I hope it sounds as good as I think it is....

I would keep the bass drum outside of the mic. If you try to put it inside, you would have to modify the case, and you would have a huge honkin' microphone. Postioning that thing would be a bitch.

HAHA! I was thinking the same thing. Yes, you definitely don't want to try to stuff your bass drum into a mic.

I'm liking my mic on the beater side, pointed right at the point of impact at about 45 degrees, 4-6 inches away. You pick up a bit of the snare underside too, which may or may not be a good thing. :o

I First Started Micing my Bass Drum Outside the Drum ,well Because My Bass Drum Didn"t have a Hole in it and I didn"t like the Sound as I couldn"t Get that Low Sustain "Thud" out of it Just a Ringing Boom sound which isn"t the sound I wanted for the Music I do so I ended up Cutting a Hole in My Bass Skin and Just Placeing my Mic on the Pillow Faceing the Drum Head and I get a Much Better sound Now especially since I use a Cheapo Apex $25 Mic for my Bass and I"m sure it will sound better once my Compressor and EQ Shows Up....

Cheers
