Bass cab speaker replace

Flailing up a storm.
Qualifier: this is just for my fool-around in the studio rig. I am not a bass player, and am looking for the best bang for the buck, not premier equipment.

A while ago, i received a free 15 inch bass cab, and a free GK 200 RB (I forget, something like that?) head for it. I've never liked how it sounds, and the other day i took out the speaker to find a 2 inch rip in the paper of the cone.

Now i am trying to decide if i should replace the speaker, the cab, or the whole rig. Ideally a cheap usable speaker replacement would be the best.

I found this, and the price is about right, can anyone give an "ought to be ok" or "look out, it seems like trash" opinion?

Last thought- I recently saw a 70's fender (tube) bassman rig with cabinet locally for about $500, more than i am ready to pay now, but would love to have as another flavor for guitar as well. Any thoughts on that? I haven't really seen many people talk about using one for bass. If that would work i might hold out and try to get htat to serve double duty.

THanks,
Daav

If you really want to go on the cheap, and if the damage is not too severe, you can try repairing the tear with newspaper and clear fingernail polish. I've got a couple of monitor speakers that have been working fine for about 5 years that I have repaired that way.

I cut a strip of newspaper big enough to cover the tear plus an inch or so all around it and painted one side with the polish. Then I laid it over the tear and let it dry. Then I cut another strip and did the same thing. And then one more, and a coat of polish.

With a bass speaker I might do another one or two strips. Let it dry for a couple of days before you fire it up. If you are planning on replacing the speaker anyway, what's to lose?
