basic tips/tricks for good bass tone and getting the bass to sound full in the mix complimenting and blending with the guitar.

for instance.....add a little bit of reverb? or turn the tone knob on the bass down a little bit to help blend in the bass with teh guitar?

I personally like the deeper bass sound, so I do turn down the tone a little. I also like the more natural sound. I use my fingers and not a pick. That in my opinion gives the bass a smoother tone as well.

I say take the time while mixing and give it that sound that YOU like and want!

I take just the opposite approach. I prefer a bass to have a bit of edge and character, so I make sure to record with new (but slightly broken in) guitar strings and with a pick. The kind of tone I prefer works very well with both the basic strat and les paul guitar sounds. Further more, it blends yet stays out the way of the kick and toms.

Also, it should be noted that many guitar players think their guitars should have more bass to it when in fact its really the midrange that they should focus on. This is especially true in a recording environment.. Too many times I have listened to a recording and asked, "where is the bass"?
