If I want to try positioning two small condensor mics in an XY configuration to record acoustic guitar, what's a good way to hold them in place? Do you just use two mic stands or it there a better way?
Hi,
in any good mic shop you could find a stereo bar that hold 2 (or 4) mics and can be attached to 1 mic stand, it doesn't cost much and the good ones will let you easly record xy or ortf.
hope it helps

Try positioning one over your right shoulder and the other at the twelfth fret about a foot away and aimed at bridge. This way you are recording the sound much the you hear it when you play.

Interesting idea, but why would I want to record the sound the way I hear it when I play? The guitarist's head is usually in a relatively poor sound position, isn't it? When I need a better idea of what it's sounding like to others I play into a wall. Or else I arrange for an out of body experience and sit in front of myself.
