It's that time of year again when I have to move everything from my garage/studio down into the basement (the garage is detached from the house and not heated). This isn't necessarily a bad thing, although the atmosphere and sound are much better in the renovated garage, but I'm having a hard time trying to decide where to place things. In the past, there was never an emphasis on recording - we just played - but now with that process in mind, things are different. I'm really only worried about the drums...
The entire basement is concreate, a large rectangle of it with the furnace, water heater, and stanchion right in the middle. At one end though is a small room that could just accomodate a drum set. This would definitely ease the problem of drums pouring into every mic when we record, but it would also be strange having him out of view all the time. I also thought about keeping him out in the main area, putting amps, etc in that room when it's time to record. I'm just not sure. Guided by Voices did it for years with minimal effort, I'm sure, I'd just like to know how.
Any of you have any experienced recording in basements?
