I've had the MR-8 for about 3 months now, but I've only gotten the basics down (I only use it every so often). But maybe there's something I don't know fully yet or haven't tried in regards to bouncing tracks. I record average length songs (about 4 1/2 min each), yet I BARELY have enough room left to bounce 3 tracks and not even a full fourth! ( I had just one second left). Am I gonna gave to get a bigger memory card just cause I want to record with more tracks?

Or would recording on 1-4, bouncing to 5-6, deleting 1-4 and then bouncing to 7-8 do any good? Thanks

I've had my mr8 about the same amount of time and have also been frustrated by the stock memory. Everyone I've been in contact with are going to upgrade to the 512mb card minimum. I'd like a one gig card, but they are a little pricey right now. The average price for a 512 mb seems to be around $100 - $115 (including rebate). I haven't used it enough to try bouncing tracks as of yet, but overall think it is a fine unit for the money. A friend of mine has a korg with a hard drive and it is too user unfriendly. I wanted something easy to use -not something you need a degree in computer science to operate and I am very pleased with it so far.

Delete unused. Are you using it? If not you are not getting your recording time back after erasing tracks, songs, undo, etc. Although, I will tell you with the 128mb card you will only get approx. 5.64 tracks with a 4:15 song. I would be shopping for a new card too, but using the MR-8 in conjunction with my PC I can have unlimited tracks.

Here's my routine....I do it an awful lot , cause I just haven't got my fingers back and I make a lot of mistakes.

1. SCREW UP!
2. erase track (if whole track)
2B. erase part (if punched in)
3. DELETE UNUSED
4. try again
5. SCREW UP!
6. start again at step 2 or 2B

OOOHHHH Im gettin good at it!! Works for me though.....that way, I don't loose any precious time on my card. If I only use 3 or 4 tracks, there's usually enough room to bounce, but remember you're bouncing to STEREO. That's twice as much card space.

Just a few pointers.

This quote should be added to the manual. A lot of grief would be avoided if Fostex explained how to erase bad takes. We all went through a few days of hassle when we first got our machines. I guess the word is out there, because you don't heart much about this issue anymore.
This could be the beginning of a wonderful new career for you bdbdbuck:)

Yeah, but wouldn't it be great if manuals were actually written like that. :D

I never had any problem with this. You know why? Because of you guys/gals. I was on this forum before I actually received my MR-8. When it arrived "delete unused" was firmly planted in my mind (along with a lot of other things). I look at the manual every now and then, but mostly I come here. I don't want anyone to come down on me or anything, but I don't know if anyone else has had the same experience or not. Most of the time in some of the other forums my questions are ignored. Again, Thanks.

I think you're correct Gospel, this is a very cool forum. There doesn't seem to be too much attitude. Maybe it's because we're all beginners when it comes to recording and therefore don't have much ego about the process. Anyway, I'm glad you didn't go through the frustration of trying to figure out the delete/undo key. By the way, thanks for the plugin links.

Thanks to everyone that's responding. I appreciate it! I do use the Delete Unused command (thank God for it), and I usually erase the whole track when there's mistakes. It's just that the actual bouncing phase is where I get nervous, cuz I just barely had enough room to bounce a 3 and 1/4 track, 4 and a half minute song. *SIGH* Oh well, as long I don't do any epic Dream Theater-type songs, I'll be good. Time to save for a bigger memory card..

***1 more question - Has anyone tried uploading their songs to MP3 format in Nowhereradio.com? It was taking an extremely long time to upload the song. Does it take very long at every other site as well? What would be some other good sites to do this at? I wanna get my songs up to share, hopefully get some critiques. THANKS

Yeah, I do a lot of that kind of thing......It's the dial-up connection! Wish I could justify the extra outlay for DSL.
