Banjo

I have often miced banjos.
I do it similar to an acoustic guitar. A mid to small diaphragm condenser at the neck about where the hand plays (to catch the hammer ons) and one ( sometimes large condenser even a good dynamic) slightly above the players shoulder level facing down at approximately a 45 degree angle toward the picking hand. Sometimes I will move that mic toward the end of the tailpiece if the banjo is really harsh sounding.

I use condensors on most acoustic instuments-usually in a stereo pair. I've had good luck with MSH mics regularly.
I guess I'm agreeing with everything T-Mix just stated....

A 57 6-8" from the lower quarter. Can't beat it with a banjo.

Q. What's the difference between a trampoline and a banjo?

A. Most people take off their shoes before they jump up and down on a trampoline. :D

Seriously though - A 57, SM7, RE20, Any one of a bunch of ribbons - Never fails.
