Bang for the buck. 8 channels of preamp

So what would you get if you wanted a good transparent 8 channels preamp. I'm not looking to spend much more then the Soundcraft M-8.
 
Yamaha MLA7

Does this task fine, and is at MF for $500 right now. I was lucky enough to get mine for $175 from a pawn shop.
