 I understand the basics of unbalanced and balanced cirduits however my question is this -

In a signal chain if an unbalnced line is used to connect two devices does the whole system behave sonically as unbalanced or just the part up to where it the devices and line become balanced again?

Thanks in advance for the answer!!!!! :)

An unbalanced cable affects only its own connection. The main point of balanced wiring is to avoid hum - and possibly radio frequencies - from getting into your gear. So if you have one unbalanced wire and all else are balanced, only that one connection is (possibly) compromised.

Thanks Ethan - that's what I kind of intuitively thought but wasn't quite sure!
