Today I was recording some vocals 4 tracks at a time with my Aardvark Q10. I would record a song then go into the aardvark control panel to adjust something and it's frozen. So everybody takes a break while I restart the computer(which takes a while). Then we start again then 10min later does the same thing. I had to do this maybe 5 times in 2 hours. It really frustrated me and really wasted alot of time. It's the newest driver fot the Q10. So any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

I dunno....do you have the lastest drivers for your OS and Aardvark?

Need more info to help you, such as:
*Detailed system specs?
*What OS?
*Hardware and software you have installed?
*Any additional peripherals connected?
*Is this new behavior, or has it just gotten worse?
*Any additional info that you can think of that may help troubleshoot...

*Detailed system specs?

P4 3.4gHz Sony VIAO 512 DDR ram

*What OS?

XP Pro

*Hardware and software you have installed?

I record with Nuendo 2.0 and when recording it's the only program running. I go and end processes that I don't need.

*Any additional peripherals connected?

No, Just the Q10. I do have a Audigy Platnium 2 Ex but I don't use it for recording.

*Is this new behavior, or has it just gotten worse?

I think it's getting worse. Today I would record a single track then go into the control panel and no meters are working and the clock sync display is not accurate.

Once the insert on channel 3 didn't work. So I restarted and it worked fine. I've been using the Q10 for a few months and this is the first I had problem. Sometimes I just open it and 5 seconds later it freezes. It's pretty freaky!

OK, a couple of thoughts.

1. I used to have to do technical and desktop support on a few Sony VIAO's, and each and every one of them was OK for standard desktop applications, but were not good with high-end video and/or audio applications. These were older VIAO's (about 3 years ago) so maybe they've changed since then...

2. What kind of connection interface do you have with your SB Audigy card? When I did a quick search online, the creative site appears to show the card as a PCI-card with an extenal breakout box. Is this correct in your case?

Either way, if you're trying to make the SB and Aardvark cards work together, that may be the root of the problem. I used to have a SB card that would not work at all with my Aardvark DP 2496, even if I disabled the SB while I was using the Aard card. The creative drivers completely suck (only my opinion based on my experience) for "real" recording, but they are a great comsumer-level sound card for gaming and the like.

My guess is that if you remove the SB card physically and remove all the creative drivers and software, and then go into "safe mode" to remove every last piece of creative drivers/software listed anywhere (add/remove software & device manager), and then remove all instances of the creative sound balster stuff in the system registry (be sure to back it up first!!!!!!), you will no longer have issues with the Q10. You may, however, want to uninstall and then re-install all the Q10 Aardvark drivers to be sure the Creative drivers didn't mangle them.

So, get rid of the SB, and the Q10 will shine. The only question I would really ask is why you'd even have the SB card installed when you have a monster like the Q10 at your disposal. Actually, on second thought, I think you should just give up and sell the Q10 ...to someone like me. Heck, I'll buy that for a dollar!! :D

Good luck!

Thanks moon.

I don't use the SB card for recording at all. I use this computer as a hybrid recording/personal use computer. I looking into getting a computer just for recording sometime in the future. I always watch videos..listen to my cds in the SB card. Are you sure if I uninstall the SB card the Q10 would work fine? They have been working toghter fine for the past couple months.

No, I am not sure. That is what makes computer troubleshooting sooooooooooooo much fun!!:D My "educated" *guess* (as I stated in my last post) is that it would resolve your issues, but nothing in this world is 100% certain, except death and other various non-music-related events. From my prior SB experience(s), I think it would most likely solve your problems, but contact Aardvark technical support (via phone, if possible) and run it by them.

No problem about the advice. I had a mess to deal with when I tried to get my SB and Aardvark to work together and people here were very helpful. But it was the techs at Aard that helped me through it step by step, they know their products really well.

Look at it this way: If you *do* completely uninstall the SB card and re-install the Q10 from the ground up, you can *always* re-install the SB just the way it was. (Just create a system restore point before you make any changes. This will allow you to restore the system right to the exact settings you had before making any modifications!)

If you are at all squeemish about uninstalling the SB and such, I suggest contacting Aardvark tech support before making *any* and *all* modifications! (and only blame me if it goes well!)

Good luck!!
