*Detailed system specs?
P4 3.4gHz Sony VIAO 512 DDR ram
*What OS?
XP Pro
*Hardware and software you have installed?
I record with Nuendo 2.0 and when recording it's the only program running. I go and end processes that I don't need.
*Any additional peripherals connected?
No, Just the Q10. I do have a Audigy Platnium 2 Ex but I don't use it for recording.
*Is this new behavior, or has it just gotten worse?
I think it's getting worse. Today I would record a single track then go into the control panel and no meters are working and the clock sync display is not accurate.
Once the insert on channel 3 didn't work. So I restarted and it worked fine. I've been using the Q10 for a few months and this is the first I had problem. Sometimes I just open it and 5 seconds later it freezes. It's pretty freaky!
OK, a couple of thoughts.
1. I used to have to do technical and desktop support on a few Sony VIAO's, and each and every one of them was OK for standard desktop applications, but were not good with high-end video and/or audio applications. These were older VIAO's (about 3 years ago) so maybe they've changed since then...
2. What kind of connection interface do you have with your SB Audigy card? When I did a quick search online, the creative site appears to show the card as a PCI-card with an extenal breakout box. Is this correct in your case?
Either way, if you're trying to make the SB and Aardvark cards work together, that may be the root of the problem. I used to have a SB card that would not work at all with my Aardvark DP 2496, even if I disabled the SB while I was using the Aard card. The creative drivers completely suck (only my opinion based on my experience) for "real" recording, but they are a great comsumer-level sound card for gaming and the like.
My guess is that if you remove the SB card physically and remove all the creative drivers and software, and then go into "safe mode" to remove every last piece of creative drivers/software listed anywhere (add/remove software & device manager), and then remove all instances of the creative sound balster stuff in the system registry (be sure to back it up first!!!!!!), you will no longer have issues with the Q10. You may, however, want to uninstall and then re-install all the Q10 Aardvark drivers to be sure the Creative drivers didn't mangle them.
So, get rid of the SB, and the Q10 will shine. The only question I would really ask is why you'd even have the SB card installed when you have a monster like the Q10 at your disposal. Actually, on second thought, I think you should just give up and sell the Q10 ...to someone like me. Heck, I'll buy that for a dollar!!
Good luck!
