I like the remix a lot better. Good job.
It does feel a bit left speaker heavy. But it's early in the morning. Maybe I'm a little unbalanced still.:D

Nice job on this. I like the guitar work and the vocals work well for this. My only nitpik may be the keyboard sound itself. It sounds a bit too "casio" but that is minor. The arrangement you are trying to get across works well...drums could use a bit more beef as well, but those are minor issues.

Nice job overall, and well written!

:D

Cool song for sure.......for me the hot vox works just fine........keys are pretty 'casio' sounding...........drums are MIA.........way back in the mix.......git rides are way cool, maybe a bit thin sounding.......bass is nice...........I really like the very loose 'sloppy ' feel it has.........
Good work!

Very cool song! It's like blues meets rock meets reggae. Good groove.

Hey, I'm thinking what's giving the impression of the vocal being hot is the sibilance. Your esses do tend to get kinda sharp, like mine. I've been playing around with putting my mic up above the mouth a little and point it at my mouth from there, but singing a little under it so the mic isn't getting hit by the air as much. So far, it seems to have helped to smoothen the tone out a little by cutting those esses about in half. Still got more experimenting to do, but it may be keeping me from trying to raise money for a new mic. It sounds like you like to close mic too, and that makes keeping sibilance under control very challenging. I for one hate EQing my vocals, so I've been trying different mic placements lately. Just a few thoughts.

Great tune again Chris. Nice mix too.

BULL'S HIT: Thanks for the listen. Top 40? Damn, there's one nobody's ever said about my stuff.:)

BDBDBUCK: Sorry bout the download. Thanks for putting up with it and thanks for the nice words.

POWDERFINGER: Thanks for your ears. And by the way, it ain't midi - it's actually an electric piano. I don't need fake crappy keyboard sounds... I have ACTUAL crappy keyboard sounds...

KHOMPY: Heh, I love your descriptions. "Drum stick through the watermelon." Yeah, there's a wide variety of percussion on this one, from loops and samples to me banging on a garbage can (I kid you not:D). I don't believe there were any watermelons injured in the making of this song, but you never know - things got a little wild in the studio...

SABBATH: Jimmy Page.:) Man, more unlikely comparisons! Thanks for the ears.

PHIL: No, you're not just hungover, it is left-heavy. I tried to balance it out as best I could but I just dug the way that thumping drum sounded when it was panned left aways. I moved some other things to the right to balance, but it still lists to the left a bit. Finally I just said fuck it - it's unbalanced.:)

BOYDRJ: Thanks for listening. Another vote against the keys. I kind of agree with you to an extent - I'd certainly rather have a hammond!

BOB: I'm gonna guess that you downloaded the first mix a few days ago (the one with almost no drums) and are just getting to it. I totally agree with you on the drums. Thanks!

TOM: I hear you on the sibilance. It's rough. I just have a very sibilant voicebox and I'm constantly trying to minimize it while tracking. Thing is, my mic has exactly ONE sweet spot (about 6 inches away, dead-ass straight on - no up or down allowed). Any other position and I lose a lot of "fullness". I hate going through later and de-essing line by line but I usually end up doing it anyway.:)

But I have got to the point where, aside from lopping off some low end, I very rarely have to do any eqing to the vox - which means I must be getting somewhere.

Thanks everybody. I appreciate it muchly.

Chris

Nice drum track. Do you use a real bass? Sounded good.
Could have used a nice big muffy kick drum to pin it down

Chris,
I think this my favorite of yours. Your vocal style is really cool on this. Fits nicely. Nice combination of styles and influences.

I am pretty pleased with the mix. Nice work. If it was me I would move the snare to the center or closer anyhow. My ear keeps getting pulled over there (on headphones btw). Just a thought.

Real nice work. I enjoyed it.

Doug: Yeah, it's a Fender bass. On this one there's a chorus effect added which gives it that almost acoustic sound. I think this is the first song I've done where I can play it in the car on the freeway with the windows down and STILL hear the bass.

I can't describe the joy.:D

Chris

Oops, another one. Thanks for the words Todd. Yeah, I should probably move that snare over. And I should also probably start checking the mix on headphones more - I rarely do that.

Thanks!

Chris
