Hey guys,
I just did a quick mix of this song, because I'm not quite sure what I want to do, to make this sound good.
The song is "The KKK Took My Baby Away" by the Ramones, covered by me.

It would be awesome if you guys could suggest some things to make this mix great. I already have a bunch of ideas, just want to know what you guys think!

It's too loud. Everything is overmodulating. I usually go drums first then add guitars then vocals fixing them as i go along with eq, compression and gates(drums). The drums are always first for me. I think your drums are ok. The guitar needs some eqing and the vocals need eq and compression. Can you pan stuff left and right as well? Take some more time with it. You have the tracks right there. Just fix them.

It might sound Ok if you just took 4 or 5db off the blaring guitar, everything sounds around the same volume except the blaring guitar way out front.

I like the sound of it because of what it is-all lofi and raw. Kinda reminds me of Iggy pop raw power. Anyway if you want to make it more "commericial" I would say the guitars need seperation. Pan them out. Honestly I know theres much more to say but I cant hear the other parts well enough to crit. Move those guitars outathe way and Ill take another wack at it.

Thanks guys,
I did a quick remix.. and now the guitar is unfortunately way in the back, whoops! Guitar is definately what I'm having the most trouble with.. if you guys have any tips for the guitar. please post them.

Here's the second Mix!

The Ramones guitar sound is way more difficult than people realize or Johnny Ramone gets credit for. It's not just loud powerchords. He plays his sound. Yeah, you need a single-coil guitar and 100 watts of vintage Marshall tube amp awesomeness, but until you get the nuances of his playing style down, you can't replicate it. He played it that way.

This mix is a mess. First of all, that guitar tone is nasty. Secondly, it's too centered in the middle. Multi-track the guitars, and pan them around the drums and vocals. At least 2 rhythm tracks, one left and one right. And bring them down. Do that and re-post and we'll go from there.

The first mix:
The track has no bass! It needs some bottom end to push the song along.

Also, don't know if you were purposely aiming for a mono mix, but everything coming out of dead-center is making this song less than it could be.

On the bright side, other than the too-loud guitar, it's a great AM radio mix.

The second mix:
To my ears, is perfect. Pulling the guitar back and adding some stereo filled out the sound. Don't know if you pushed the bass fader up on this one, but it definitely added punch. Much better!

The mix is clipping like crazy. It's also very narrow. There are lot's of pitch problems with the vocals. The guitar is dominating everything else. A couple of timing problems.

On the plus side, it had great energy.

Thanks.. But i think most people arel listening to the first mix, which is basically unmixed xD, the second mix is a bit better, but not much.. Ill take all your guys' input and make a new mix..

EDIT: I just deleted to first mix, so people won`t listen..

Okay, so i've decided to totally re-record the guitars, i'm just not feeling them..

So, i've been experimenting and think I've found a good sound,
But what would you guys suggest, in terms of settings, mic placement, eq, processing, anything, to get the Ramones sound that I'm after.

Thanks!

I actually like the gnarly guitars the best! I think your vocals could be toned down. The harmony's sound very nice though.

I don't know how you recorded the drums but I think the cymbals could be a bit more noticeable.
