I want to back up my custom saved presets for the Sonar effects like compressors, EQs, etc. for when I reinstall Sonar.

How do I do this? And how do I reinstall them? Is it just a text file to copy?

Yup... it's quite easy IMHO :)

First, install SONAR Plugin manager.

Then in SONAR, go Tools --> SONAR Plugin Manager.

It will open two paneled window of plug in manager. Click on the right panel, highlight the effect you want to save... Click Export, and save the setting as .spp file...

(Damn, I wish I'm at my DAW to attach some pic :( )

...the export & manage tab is greyed with some effect, Jaymz. What's wrong ?

That means you didn't add some user preset setting :)
With some particular effect, you need to add (save) your own set within the particular effect panel, thus it will be available to be saved by Plug in manager.

...but if I insert the effect into the track, I can see some effect listed in the preset in the effect panel, Jaymz ?

That's true. Those are default setting comes with the effect installation. So don't worry. Even though you don't save it, it still will appear if you re-install it.

...then how to load them back after I reinstalled everything ?

Again, in SONAR, go Tools --> SONAR Plugin Manager.

Click the right panel the same way above, now import the .spp file :) Piece of Cake, eh ? :)

Playing around with this tool is harmless (unless you delete some presets incidentally  ). Have a try & lurk :)

I was thinking template files would save track and aux insert information in Sonar.

James Argo claims this can be done with the PlugIn-Manager, but he has never told me how... ;)

Pffffff, only for SONAR users....this is so silly. Like HS2002 users don't use plugins...like the plugin manager is a really advanced program (NOT! One of my coworkers writes a program like this in 10 minutes....hey, I might ask him!).

Stuff like this makes me wanna download an illegal copy. These Cakewalk dudes are asking for it...(but of course I won't, I'm a good puppy)

:D

...now please consider ordering Trojka's first cd Neem Vrij volume 1.

And you don't have to pre-order these cd's. Instant gratification people!!!
