Bach Breaker

Sounds good, i would add a little variation to the drum programming, and alittle less verb. They sound too far in the back of the room. The playing was nice and i liked the lead tone. Nice playing.

I keep listening, trying to enjoy it...figure out where I went wrong...just one of those things I can't seem to get thrilled about. It works in my head..but doesn't translate when I try to make it real. Second try. Taking the reverb thing into consideration...shelving it for now...maybe do the lead trax again when I have a proper amp. And there's this midrange buildup I can't seem to tame...then I thin it more...it sounds tinny and un-punch-like. Got me beat!
 
Definitely an interesting tune Jeff.
Some great lead work here, shades of classical, traditional and blues here and there....just Jeff style I guess. I thought the song and the mix were great.

I really liked it Jeff. It almost sounded like the style of the Brubeck brothers. I know I spelled the name wrong.

I liked it...out of your comfort zone..

the drums did need more work..I loved the sound of the keyboard...would to have liked to hear that coming in more...great performance as per

Drums: wanted to keep it real 60's basic, with some stock campy fills...the velocities worked with another snare sample...changed at the last mix...all the hits sound the same. D'OH!

The organ is 'Gospel Organ. I'd have preferred a Farfisa. Don't have that. Do they make it?

I'm working on something else, but I'm gonna take another crack at this one right after. I hate defeat.

I think, listening fresh, I overprocessed, pre master. Just has no push, dig, and pump. It oughtta!


When you say 'a little more work on the drums', can you get specific??

oh i just meant they sounded out a box...


a bit more cymbals..a punchier kick..more rattle in the snare (I am on phones so they are tamed a little)

I really didnt get the surf 60's thing at all...more prog rock sounding to me so Id have a more rock pattern going on with a different kit

betcha I have farfisa samples if you have a sample player...though those ones you used sounded good

You may have been joking with it but I think it had something going on...I could even here a fat sweeping synth lead in it...but I hear them most places lol

OH! No joke! I seriously hope some producer in Wisconsin will pay me for the cheep luxury of using the music as a floor for a local TV, 2am Ski-Doo commercial. That's why I'm keeping it lite on the feature stuff. Gotta leave room for 'Sam, the Snowmobile Man' to get space for his voice over!

But it's not even there, yet...the thing sounds like crrraaaaapppp. My recorded sounds are not real great....but this is the worst outcomes in a couple years. I listen side-by-side with some of my better stuff...and I just can't figure out what happened. I did the same old routine.

When I mastered the things, the snare sounded great!!!!
 
The more I listen to this the more I like it. Really cool progressions and unexpected changes.

I'm only on headphones here but the guitar sounds don't seem to go together. Maybe if the lead sound had a touch more Hank Marvin, it would blend in a more 'surf-like' fashion. Also the drums need more oomph. Nevertheless, great little tune
 
I'm borrowing a real amp to retrack in a week or so...and re-doing the drums...sounds..and just getting a fresh perspective. Not familiar w/ Hank Marvin...more memories of Beach Boys, Dwaine Eddy, Ventures. maybe I'll set up the whammy-bar on the Strat...if I can keep it in tune for more than 5 seconds :mad:

I'm a huge surf guitar fan. Love it. I hear some elements of surf rock in this, but not much. This seems more Satriani-like than Ventures. That's okay though, it's cool and rambunctious just for what it is. I like just about anything that's wild and up-tempo. Only thing I'd mess with are the drums. They're very meh. No kick. I get wanting minimal 60's style drums for surf rock, but this isn't very surfy. They didn't use much heavy duty overdrive in the early 60's, so some bigger drums would suit this well. The keys are a nice touch. Maybe give em a little more presence and some rotary speaker action. Kick ass tune.
 
I met a retired drummer who has two kits...he's setting one up in my apartment, and wants to do tracks with me. So I might be holdin off on this one for a few weeks. He's supposed to be really good, and cut all the bags.

Real drums will be nice...have to scrounge around for some mics...and I have to do all the mixing at input...only a non-firewire stereo in to the soundcard. And fixing the space acoustically 'll be a challenge; but maybe this is the ultimate answer...a new learning curve....on a PB&J budget! :^(

My main headache with this, aside from the drums, is the overall lack of presence. It's absolutely two dimentional. On the other hand, the compressed sound might be just the thing for a voiced-over car commercial?

I'll see....I'll be schlepping it in another month on a compilation disc for production music pickup. It's amazing what sells....if yer sights are set low. :)

Yeah, Gerg...love your surf stuff. You know that!

As for the distortion...I figured a little guts for the target were in order...Munsters plinking just doesn't move the senses like distortion can. I have a sans-lead floor version without the big distortion.....that one might be usable....a lot less distracting.

And I'll have to whammy something in it somewhere...just not surf without it.
