baby oj im gonna eat your babies

I have no hate for the genre. In fact, I have mixed and mastered some tunes for guys in the Hippy Hop forum. It is not my favorite genre, but I am still here to help. I don't think the forum needs to go, just the attitude seems to have something to be desired in some cases.

I likes me some hippy hoppity! :)

lool

good to know

i'll get my post count up so i can post some audios with my questions.

honestly...not to sound like baby oj part 2...i think im reasonably gifted on the mic

im just horrible with mixing....recording and general technological know-how

but i'll stick around to see wat u guys can teach me. hopefully a lot

sweet, well, get your post count up

and ask away.

And it's cool. Nothing wrong with believing in yourself. If you don't no one else is going to.
But as the old saying goes there's a fine line between confidence and cockyness. It's especially bad when youre cocky and you suck :p.

As far as mixing and recording and stuff, we've all been there.
Whether we're awesome singers, or br00tal drummers, or whatever.
We can play. We're just shit at recording. It's pretty overwhelming at first, but then you start learning and getting better and things get easier. And become more fun.
All in all, learning new production techniques can have a positive influence on your creativity.

Yeah, I've got nothing against the genre.
Or any genre for that matter. As long as the music comes from a genuine place I can respect that. (though. I can't sit through a country song)
It just so happens that a lot of mainstream hip hop comes from a bullshit place.

But I guess a lot of mainstream anything comes from a bullshit place.

lol so i take it this isn't the place to get tips on improving home recording of rap vocals?

guess i won't be here for long then

This forum, like HR as a whole, is definitely the place to get tips on recording anything. I was just ranting on the pitiful state of this particular, pointless, part of it that seems to be made just to trap one specific group of noobs (as if "What's the best mic for rap vocals" is any better than "How do the black keys get those horribly shitty sounding recordings"). (Lol. Link to that particular gem...)

Anybody who's getting into recording, regardless of genre - can go to these places here for help with vocals:
Recording techniques
Singing and vocals

And if you have questions about your gear setup - we have these places:
Microphones
The rack
Digital recording and computers

If you compose and/or record any of your own music/beats, there's these forums:
Song writing and composition
Keyboards and sound modules
Midi

And of course this is always a good option for anything really basic:

And this, for mixing any of the above:

People in those forums are friendly and really help everybody, and those topics completely cover every aspect of what goes into a hip-hop recording. This subforum existing is just...pointless - and kind of embarrassing / awkward to even look at. The moderators don't even delete the spam in here, ffs.

But def don't leave, dude - just don't ask real questions right here in the "hip hop" part. You'll get one ear full of bullshit and the other packed with fruity-loops spam.

Also - you like my tag, huh? Lol - I wish we had those here. I might suggest that to our overlords.

Um, yeah, we do delete spam in the HH forum. Trust me, it would be absolutely ridiculous if I wasn't checking it daily. There is a fine line as to what is considered spam there. Sharing 'beats' is part of the genre, so as long as money is not mentioned for getting them, it is kinda tolerated. The DJ HH forum was added to keep this type of thing away from the other forums. Like the Cave, some spit is just best left to the haters. :)

Yeah I actually like the hippedy hoppity and the rappin. My Crows of Fritz band was that genre. :D

If you need any help Moose, let us know.

Hey, I'm not trying to rag on the job you do in here, Jimmy - my bad. I was out of line with the not-deleting spam thing. Also just to be clear - I never ragged on hip-hop - quite opposite really - so my bad also, if I somehow implied that and caused the last few comments about it being cool or whatever. I just think this subforum is redundant and that ultimately - it does more harm than good to people who think it's the place to go for help, who would get significantly better help somewhere else here on HR.

That said - Looking at the first page of results, I see 7 threads which are all pretty shameless self-promotion (complete with SHAMWOW!! kind of enthusiasm), none of which are looking for feedback or anything like that, and I don't see how they're anything but useless to other posters here, or why those guys shouldn't have to self-promote in the self-promotion / get your spam on section like everybody who makes other kinds of music does. There's 1 that's trying to sell a really nice keyboard, which would probably be sold by now if it was in the gear-to-sell section, and 3 threads where people are actually looking for feedback and (and...not getting any - I think we all know they'd at least get something in the MP3 clinic).

Also - I didn't ignore your point about sharing beats when I was writing about the spam / shameless self-plugs just now. In fact I think it's a good one. I think if that's going to be tolerated, though, it shouldn't be just some weird exception limited to just hip-hop, though (and I don't get the cave reference at all, tbh). I think it'd be pretty damn cool to have a subforum where people could share beats, samples, drum hits, impulses, sound fonts - that would be pretty kickass, really. People would make requests, maybe even offer stuff in trade for somebody else making them a beat or a gog or something. I could see that being a productive and helpful little corner to a lot of people working with all kinds of music. (Putting that on my suggest to overlord's list too, now).

No offense taken TH. In fact, you make some really good points. I myself wish the DJ HH forum had more useful content. Howz about you start. :)

I'm loving the hippy hoppy threads right now.
Where did Baby OJ got to?

I hope Big moouse enjoys it here. He at least is willing to learn.

By the way Moouse there is a lot to be learnt from Baby Oj's previous thread
Mainly that a heavy dose of humilty and humour goes a long way around here.
