ok...after listening to this 47 times, I have a couple [more]suggestions. The opening 'tuba' line...I'd maybe come up with a related melody line, arpeggio, rather than just the same note...or something other...like a filter sweep. Something to keep it FROM sounding like a count off. Also, I think the noise reduction in cooledit is VERY good, and I'd consider trying to "clean up" some of your tracks in a very sparingly way. Or even manually edit/gate COMPLETE silence in your tracks in the non playing areas, if you haven't already. This last suggestion [noise reduction] will probably get my shit jumped for suggesting that, but since your stuff is not appearing to try and accurately reproduce specific instrument sounds, but instead just going with what sounds good, I think the idea is acceptable. But go EASY. I use it all the time, and find that a gentle hand omits all the chirpy/swirling side affects. I think it is one of CoolEdits hidden secrets, actually. And...thinking about it, I think the alternate panning on the tuba may not actually be all that distracting. On the trumpet lead...pan the sucker across the stage as it plays. Really separate those Bg humming vocals too. Also, a very UNnoticeable small room reverb on the lead vocals would be nice...and a spill over verb..again, NOT obvious, on the breaks would be nice too...especially over a edited silence.
Going to harp on the HH again. This is the ONLY item that makes it sound kinda "home recorded" to me...hence the slight dislike of it.. But it does kinda fit in its own cheesy kinda way. And...also, the humming Bg vocals in some spots(like around the 1 min mark) sound a little out of tune. Ok, I suppose, but since you have $50,000 left in your recording budget, I'd get 'em purrrfect!
Man..I think I'd buy an album of this in a heartbeat. I really like this.
