The SE-1 looks like the SC-1 to me.

Uncanny! :D

hmm ... it's like snap again. like the Genelec/Behringer/Phonic monitors mystery!

but actually the SE1 hasn't had amazing reviews. maybe i should stick.

ADK is run by end users in the service of end users & you'll not find better customer service ANYWHERE.
I also got an ADK A-51 Pro S " Vienna" LDC from TKey which is just wonderful. I mean, it's REALLY good - very sensitive, warm & creamy sounding on vocals & ac guit - and TKey sent it me by mistake when I ordered their standard A-51 ( The Vienna is about £150 more expensive!!) - they cock up all the time btw, so you could get lucky.
Other choices would have to include the much vaunted Oktava MK012 - it's as good as folk say it is and you could maybe consider ordering it from the US ( much, MUCH cheaper over there)
I hope you're successful in your hunt - I sympathise enormously with you struggling to get good mics in the UK - it took me ages to do my homework & find what I wanted.
This board is great though - tons of advice & help.

If that's of any help.

Hey Dan and Noisy

Red5 have just added a new model to their range, the RV6, which they're selling for £45

Check it out here

man, i'm way confused by what to get now. i'll have to read up on all of them.

You won't find many opinions on the RV6 as it appears to be a recent addition. Heck, a pair'd only set you back £90 (plus whatever the postage is), AND they let you have them on a 14 day trial basis. If you can't tell whether or not you like a mic after 14 days then there's really no hope for you.

Once you've played with them for a bit let us know what you think ;)

hmmm 14 days, i can't choose a pair of socks in 14 days!!

i'll have a little look but they sound like another choice. i can compare them straight with my C1000S - if I don't prefer them over that then they can go straight back!!!

Maybe you should try listening to some of the mics... that will help you decide.

I'm sure I explained further up why I can't do that ... that's why I'm jumping at the 14-day trial thing.

Bummer... oh well, good luck.

Thanks! My problem is that the music chain stores don't carry the smaller brands, so there's very little in the lower end of the price range. I went into my local enormous music shop today and they could only offer me C1000Ss and a Samson CO1 for less than £200!

Hmmph. Academy Of Sound don't exactly go out of their way to stock much from the product lines of the bigger brands either

I wish we had a Digital Village in Leicester

Yeah Mark this is the problem - Digital Village is a great website but we need some shops that stock what they stock. Thanks Ausrock - I may try Soundsense!

I could set up a number of mics including the two that started this thread and record some acoustic guitar as an example, however there are so many variables that could influence the recorded sound that it probably would be more of a hindrance than a help.

Apart from that, last time I did something like that a couple of years ago, it started what almost amounted to a "holy war" :D .

HiString eh.... :D I wasn't the only one who looked then :)

i've no idea what you're on about, but i don't wanna start any more wars, holy or otherwise.

I once compared some AKG's, a Neumann and an SP mic............some people read too much into it.

Canopus, obviously saw the post at RO from Soundsense/PressRed about their rental gear...........my RO username is HiString :)

does anyone know where you might purchase a pair of Octava MC-319's? or do they ever make those in a stereo pair? i cant even find a place online that sells them. anyone have any advice? looking for some large diaphram overheads.
