Haha I guess, but its the holidays :D Whats the point in having weeks off if you cant stay up way too late and wake up at midday? :) And yourself? :P

err ... i'm a student -- every day is a holiday!!!:D

Mark, I actually don't eat that many takeaways but I haven't worked out how to get shopping in before I need it as opposed to when I'm really really hungry and there are no buses to the supermarket!!

Think I'll stick with the B1s now, man, I'm gonna need some more mic stands soon!

Ah. :o

I guess that's the one advantage of being unemployed and living less than 20 minutes walking time from a city centre that has a Sainsburys, a Marks and Spencers, a Sommerfield, an Iceland, an Aldi and a really big market.

Not being able to afford a £50 mic is a definite disadvantage

i live on the edge of Leeds, it's suburbia but it's actually quite nice where i am. my housemates both have cars so there's options

i'll buy a pair of mics this time around for sure ... the loan comes in on the 19th and i think harvey's sending me a set of his headphones too.

Hmm. You live in the suburbs (which is usually where the hypermarkets are located) and you live with two people who have cars.

Would one of them not be willing to give you a lift once a week to the nearest hypermarket in exchange for petrol money?

Just an idea.

absolutely! there's a cracking 24-hour Asda 10 mins drive away, it's just i only realise i need shopping when i've already run out of food! i'm learning. and Asda doesn't sell LDCs, anyway.

You'll see a class difference. Asda will sell you the behringers and Waitrose will have Neumanns...

LMFAO!!!!! Bang on, CanopuS - what the hell is Waitrose, anyway?? I only know Asda and Morrisons. Let's keep it Yorkshire.

Actually M & S will sell the Neumanns

Asda will stock MXL and Studio Projects

Sainsburys will stock C1000Ss, overpriced and really no better than the Asda alternative. Netto will sell broken microphones with no boxes but if you're willing to try a few you may find one that you like.

I take it by C1000Ss you mean AKG condensers in general?

So Asda will sell the Audio-Technica line?

I don't wanna start a flame war, but if I was to ask for two B1s with the same coloured sticker on the box, would that increase my chances of getting a similar pair????
No... and chances are, you'll never find a matched pair of Studio Projects B1's either.

Ooookay. Does anyone agree/disagree with this opinion? My understanding was that the stickers gave a guide to output level (tell me if I'm wrong). So to a pair of untrained ears like mine, a pair with similar output may be as close to matched as I need anyway. Can the stickers help me?

Uh oh

You really don't want to ask that question ND

noisedude,

Just get two B1's if that's what you really want... they won't be matched, but they will most likely be close enough for your needs.

Maybe someday PMI will offer "Matched" pairs of B1's and etc... but right now, I think only the C4's come in stereo pairs? I wonder if and when the Behringer B5's will be sold in stereo pairs like the Studio Projects C4's.

no, actually i stopped going there after Sound Control opened a branch here. but it might be worth going in, they got a new premises recently so it might be better than it was. i'll see what they have, i know that SC only seem to deal with certain brands (no Crafter or Tanglewood acoustics - the staples of the cheap market along with Yamaha APXs!) and so don't have any of the more obscure mics.

Are you saying my ears are crap????? :D

I think you're right. It's not so much that it's what I want, but I don't see anything that great in the prices near above, so I see no point in spending more. The B1 looks like a good mic with good backup from the company, which hasn't always been the way with other manufacturers for me, cheap and expensive!
