I searched a bit for a user forum regarding Yamaha products. Couldn't find one. Homerecording.com doesn't appear to have one, or did I miss it?

I just went to GC and drooled over the AW2818. Automated mixing, which means, no more bouncing pans and effects changes! GC is selling it for $1999, but they'll always come down a hundred or two if you buy a set of strings or something (hehehe)....which means that after adding up the costs of my 788 and the cdrw....I could pay another $500 for this machine. Let's not mention the time-value of losing more than 10 gig of data on the 788. That is not to say that I wouldn't have problems with the 2818 and lose data. But who knows? That's why I want to find a forum of users to find out what kind of problems they might be having.

Anyone have any ideas? Anywone know where to look? I loved my 788 until I realized that for the price of two glasses of wine that John Penn was drinking the other night I could have a machine that does everything the 788 does and then some.

How about Yamaha service? Anyone have any ideas on that?

Year-end bonus is coming up in 10 days! But until I comitt to the idea and push for a full refund on the 788 lemon I got (I've had extrordinary problems), I need to communicate with some 2818 users.

(Since I'm on the girlfriend analogy....the 788 is like a beautiful girlfriend. But then you meet another girl whose more beautiful...AND she cooks and cleans and tells you to quit your job and stay home and record music and drink beer (kinda sounds like my girlfriend now)...)

I'll never completely leave you though, my friends, my passion is to eventually pull all current TASCAM.COM members into this one (or another as yet to be developed)....and gradually prove to TASCAM that if you present a forum as a selling tool, and mp3's are an integral part of that forum (that selling tool) and then you chicken-shit out and rip the balls ( and the freedom of speech) off the forum....you're gonna eventually pay. Trust me, if the forum wasn't a selling tool, TASCAM wouldn't bother. It IS a selling tool. They put it out there and instead of doing whatever was necessary to make their clients (yes, that's us) happy, they did what made THEM happy...they did what was EASIER for them.

EASIER FOR THEM? Guess what, TASCAM? It wasn't EASY for me to put the money together to buy your product. It wasn't easy for me to drive my 788 from Sacramento to LA only to have the service department lose my data (which Pat e-mailed me and told didn't have to happen, I saved the e-mail, I may need it if legal action is necessary)...It wasn't EASY for me to struggle through the tutorial manual (and NO! I'm not paying $30 for a video!)...It wasn't EASY for me to ignore my family, hours on end, listening to mp3's to try and give good help and input to people who were having trouble with their 788's...It borders on false advertising. Screw them all to hell. And, false advertising is consumer fraud.

MUTINY...!!!...MUTINY...!!!...MUTINY...!!!

I don't mean to get off on a rant here (I don't mean to steal lines from Dennis Miller here)...so how about Yamaha?

Umm, if you do a search on yahoo you'll come across an AW4416 user group, which covers the 2816 as well.

good luck

okay, Im a real idiot. I couldn't find one. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to take the time....but a url would be nice if any one can shoot a total idiot to a forum regarding this.

bpf,

I've never found much on the AW 2816 either, but for your recording and the amount of tracks your laying down, it's probably a better way to go than the 788. Does GC do trade in's? Got mine at the GC in San Bernardino for $900, tax inculded, basically they'll match anything you find on the internet if they want the sale. And they're still making 35% profit.

What I've found so far is here:

and a discussion here:

Yo Bottle-Green Big Fly Papa:

If I recall, there is a site for the 2816 [there is no 2818] so if dialed that in, you would get zilch.

www.aw2816. com should get you ther... Green Hornet :D :D :p :D :o

Thanks for the info Green Hornet. About how many hours have you clocked on your unit, and, any problems? I ask because I was infinitely happy with my 788 until I started losing hours and hours of work...had to send it in...have to send it in again...etc...

Also , what is the drive memory.

Thanks a lot.

John Penn, thanks for sites. I'm going to check them out.

Yo Big Green Bottle Buzzer:]

You can go to the Yamaha site and get all of the specifications for the DAW 4416 and the 2816.

But, it has enough memory to do a ton of stuff if you stay in the 16 bit mode. That's where I'm working because I just want to burn my stuff down to CDR or CDRW if needed.

I've got about 33 hours of study in on this unit. I've messed with it a bit but wanted to know what I'm doing before recording. I've still got my MD8 plugged in with all of the outside gear.

But, you know Green Papa Fly, once I start using the 2816 full time, my two FX processors are about done....Oh, you can use them to send a signal but the internal FX of the 2816 is pretty good, maybe better than most outside FX boxes.

If you check and research, you will always hear that the 2816 and its mamma, the 4416, make good sounds.

I'm starting to think that Green Hornet drinks while he's on-line.

...HEY!!! You've come to the right place...me too!

hey Green Hornet

I'm curious about what you think about the 2816's dsp effects. From what I understand, they've really improved them over the 4416 and made those effects a free download to older 4416 users. What a nice concept.

A musican friend who's more into studio side work then I am has a 4416 and loves it, and it's worked very well for him. I did lose a few jobs to him this summer recording old fogies doing show tunes etc. because of the look of the 788 (being small and weird and silver). The clients felt something that looked like that could not possibly record well and they went with something that had a better appearance. I'm sure my friend did a good job with them but it cost me easy money.

I always stay in a 24 bit mode till everything is done then make a 16 bit wav. file, it just seems to hold up better.

Not easy being green, ain't it?

Yo PhilBoyd in the Void:]

I will give you a view of the DSP effects later when I'm more familiar with this box. But, from what I've read, they are very good effects -- thus, my nice little digital effects boxes may be collecting dust soon in my catacombs of old gear.

One reason I got the 2816 was because it had better programs in it than the older version of the 4416; however, Yamaha is updating the 4416 so both boxes should be pretty good boxes and the price difference is but a few hundred pezzutos.

My Vendor offered to sell me the 4416 when I was discussing the 2816 and I stuck with the 2816. The 2816 only has 8 faders but I seldom need more than 8 tracks; I just wanted to be ready in case I do. Then, man, there are the virtual tracks, 8 of them for each track. I can track myself to KanmanDU and still have some left over.

I'm sure there is other gear out there better than the 28 or 44 but for the dollars, I think it's a great buy. By By.

Happy New Year

Oh, and I only drink after 5 PM and it's always 5 PM somewhere in the world.
