Readas much of it as you can, but especialy point 2.
Do you think this is a good pre to get for my needs. It will be pretty much the only thing i'll be recording with. Let me know if you can think of anything better or a bit cheaper seing a though this is where alot of my money is going. I do want something thats going to sound good though

Get good monitors!!Ya can't tell the difference if you can't hear it!As for the pre...I don't know,There are so many choices  There is as many as there are blades of grass these days.. www.atlasproaudio.com or www.mercinaryaudio.com check out all your options..I'm digging the Great River NV

Okay i'll probably go for a pair of Bx8s or may be yorkvilles.
Getting back to the avalon. Let me know if you can suggest anything thats as good/better as far as all in one pre amp/compressor/EQ goes. But nothing more expensive than the 737 because thats as much as i can afford.
I guess the other option is getting somthing like a RNC and a seperate preamp (i could probably live without EQ, but maybe you think im wrong). Any suggestions for a preamp with no bells and whistles but great sound.
Cheers
