I know every one hates autotune. I am not here to debate the uses of autotune versus the artistic quality of being able to sing. I just want to know how to make it do the thing CHER did. I have it and want to know how it works. Before some smart a** says read the manual i don't have one it is a evaluation demo and you know like i know once you install the clock is ticking. So could somebody help me out i have 15 days to figure out what it actually does thanks

This has been discussed here before in detail.

1. No, the "Cher" effect did not use autotune. Instead they used a vocoder and long nights of manually splicing in the vocoder effect in the right places in ProTools. Not recommended.

2. Autotune (talking about the box now, I don't know about the plugin) can take two inputs: One sound, one MIDI, and it pitch-shifts the sound until it reaches the pitch selected by the MIDI signal. By singing one note, but switching the played note, you will get a "Cher-effect".

3. If you can sing already, you would probably be able to produce the same effect with almost any MIDI-controllable pitch shifter.

4. But, really, you don't want to. It's so totally overused.

According to the guys who produced that song. autotune was used on one of the tracks while trying to slam her pitch way down with a slow attack. anyway I heard it on tv from the horses mouth.

"The horse's mouth"? You mean, from Cher herself?

Hmm...come to think of it, she does sound a little like Mr. Ed...
