Enchilada

Strange person.
Here we go again:

Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Same as always, vocals recorded with V67 and music is all electronic.

The first song is kind of taking the piss out or rappers who all they ever rap about is how awesome they are. The second is obvious. Alcoholism mixed with violence wixed with police brutality

Ive always preferred Ausie and British Hip Hop to US Hip Hop. Very bassy. Sure thats not covering up your vocals a little? Actually i just got to the second half of the song. Sounds like the vocals are a little louder in the second half. Infact im positive, and they sound a little more balanced.

Sorry, i was talking about the fight song. BTW its a very interesting song. Hope this didnt really happen to you.

Kick is limp as heck, other wise very interesting. Bass is to big in perspective.

It might sound good in a home stereo system. If you were listening on my monitors, which have excellent bass response (im talking tight) youd probably agree that the bass really is a little out of balance. But it might work. Yah i barely even noticed the kick in there.

Thanks heaps guys, yeah I'm in the middle of sorting out what monitors to get at the moment so I've been mixing on a $130 home theatre system
I have found it really hard to get the vocal levels right. I listen to them on my speakers and they sond fine, headphones are fine but on my girlfriend's laptop speakers vox are way too loud and on her desktop speaker vox are too soft in how mad are we, but just right in fight. The perils of having only crap speakers.

P.S. no it's not a true story but I've heard many tales of a not so "far out" version of this story that has happened to people I know. The drunk man is played by myself and the guy getting beaten up is my man Shelly H.

Let me just say with no disrespect (to you or anyone else) I think it takes a black man to really know how hip-hop should sound so I value your opinions highly. Did you think that the kick was limp in "Fight!", "How Mad Are We" or both?
Not saying that Darnold don't know what he is talking about, he always gives top advice :D

Heh, you have a really good point there.

The fact is i listen to a bit of rap in the studio because i am always interested in how the bass sounds. My monitors are really tight with the bass and so its really easy to hear if its over balancing or not. Youd be surprised at how little of bass there is in rap. I find its rarely not the volume of the bass that makes it sound huge, its just really deep. Sublime, although its dub, but really deep bass non the less is one of my favorite examples. Instead of trying to put volume on it try using a bass hamonizer at about 60Hz. Even right now a boost at 60Hz and a farely large cut at 90Hz will deepen the bass quite a bit. Its the definition of that bass that makes it sound over balancing.

Whenever im doing a style like this for a client, i always to have to prove to them that this is true. They mainly comment that the bass is too low on my monitors. I just pop in sublime. They dont fully understand it, but they figure it i know what im talking about.

Also, the defined bass might also be the cause of the limp kick. 90Hz is a perfect place to boost the kick in once the bass its out of the way. Youll start to hear a defined pump in the subs between the bass notes once you do this.

BTW, do you know The Streets? I had there CD a while ago. I will need to put it in as a reference. It seems like a similiar style of music.

Is the start of the song (Background noise) lifting from the intro of Super Mario Allstars on the Snes?

I love Sublime and The Streets :D . The Streets first album was way better though. "Has it come to this" is one of my favourite songs.

Also, no the sample at the start of the song is not from a snes.
