I have an unopened box of pyramid wedges I can sell you cheap. I bought two boxes but needed only one.

These are burgundy color, which I have had nothing but good comments on.

Will sell for $200 plus shipping.

Search for rigid fiberglass in the studio building and display forum. This stuff is great too. You could make 4'x2' panels, like this, double thickness for bass traps, then use the rest elsewhere(first reflection points, side, ceiling and back wall, and in the vocal booth).

Not to put down auralex, they are a good company, but you can get better/similar products much cheaper, imo.

I'd say, you could get the whole place done for $250-$300, depending on fabric and wood costs.

I don't think so. I spent WELL over that for just 702. And that's NOT counting bass traps.

Auralex has its place. This stuff doesn't replace bass traps, but it's good at what it does.

OC 702/3/5 is more expensive than most. The price $250-300 was based on brian's(bpape) 3.5" bulk acoustical cotton-$187, enough for 16 4'x2' panels. I took into acount the doubling up of cotton for bass traps, and that left enough for 8 4'x2'x3.5" panels. I'm in the UK so just guessed the price of fabric and wood over there (wouldn't expect it to be over $113 if bought in bulk, although i could be wrong).

I'm quite sure auralex is good. But you can get similar results without spending as much.

Here ya go. http://cgi.ebay.com/Soundproofing-3...55744686QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3278QQcmdZViewItem

Since your saving money go with the 3 inch and get better results. DO NOT use the spay adhesive that they sell or comes with the foam. Get liquid nails for foam at home depot or lowes. The stuff they sell lasts about a week, then you wake up one morning and all your foam is on the floor.

The bass traps that come with the kit are prety much a joke so don't think you are getting more than you are. The 4x4x24 so called bass traps work fine for normal reflection killing but if you need real bass traps look into something else.

I'm sorry, but firstly that is not auralex, secondly they call it soundproofing foam, and thirdly i don't trust the specs, especially the bass absorbers (1.25 at 125Hz).

With the acoustical cotton, shipping is included in the cost $187 for 3.5" bulk pack. It is made from recycled denim so, unlike regular insulation, is not itchy. It acts very much like 703.

The stuff on ebay isn't egg crate foam. It does actually seem ok, but i struggle to trust ebay companies selling foam. If you want foam, go for auralex, imo. But i suggest building your own panels with rigid fiberglass/mineral wool/acoustic cotton framed and wrapped in the (breathable) fabric of your choice.

I misread the original post. I thought he wanted something close to auralex but cheaper.

Yes they are idiots and call it soundproofing foam:D Only for the purpose of the ebay listing if I remember right. If you go to thier site I believe they are very careful to avoid that, but yes it made me laugh when I first saw it too.

I think I covered the fact that the bass traps are a joke.

The wedgie foam however does work well for helping to kill reflections and at the savings over auralex you could go with 4 inch foam if you wanted and I am quite shure get better performance than 2 inch auralex. You could also take the approach of being able to afford to cover more area.

I personally don't trust anyones spec's when it comes to this type of thing. They all are selling something and some how most comparison tests come out favoring the sponsor of the test. I have however used this foam to very good results for killing general sound reflection allthough my aplication of the foam is pretty unique and quite costly.

Anyway. Buyer beware on any and all things. Having used this product my self I will be damned if I will ever shell out auralex prices for simple wedge foam.

You didn't misread. I was just commenting that it looks like it, but there's no way of knowing if it is similar to auralex. I'm sure the simple wedge foam works well, even the shitty egg crate foam i bought years ago works, to an extent. But for good quality absorption, i always recommend building your own with rigid fiberglass/mineral wool/acoustic cotton.

I can't tell from the original post:confused: It's reads like he wants discounted auralex.

I built some 2 inch 703 panels recently. I can't tell hoe effective they are because of installing them after the foam. The foam killed alot of audible room sound soooo...? It sure doesn't have much density. I like the Idea of the mineral wool or cotton better for the bass traps. Something a bit heavier than foam or fiberglass.

You can rack up a pretty good bill building 703 panels. If your not picky about looks though you cab save alot.

Resist the urge to buy that foam by mail stuff or the other
eBay seller that sells "soundproofing" foam.

Sonic qualities aside, the stuff outgasses for weeks.
Makes sensitive people (like singers) sick. Irritates
nasal passages, eyes, throat.

Musician's Buddy has some good prices on Auralex.

I got some 705 panels off of e-bay from a guy here in Florida. They were reasonable, and the shipping was not too bad. He also has 703. Do a search for it.
