since honestly most people would never own both.

Hmm, well I can name quite a few people on this board who either have experience with both or actually own both. Although most do not, since most here are new looking for help, there are those who can give an honest opinion. So how about the ones who can't, just don't.

B. Stir shit up
C. Enjoy

i voted b52 because the D6 only seems to do one thing, it does it very well.....
but it only does one thing.

the b52 is a little harder to place, the cable thing is annoying
but it'll go any where from a bump to a tap, as the situation calls for.

AMEN to that....It took some experimenting to find the sweet spot for my Beta 52..but once I did....I was good to go. And yes...the cable issue SUCKS too...but...im happy...maybe Ill get a D6 anyway....:p

i think i will be happy ethier way but i wil be goin with the D6 i believe

The D6 has takin a little delay now my newest thing is im saving for a Soundtracz Topaz Project 8 first!

I don't find that true at all. I can get a range of different sounds out of the D6.

maybe, but it seems like all of them click.

all i'm saying is that i think that sometimes the built in eq in the d6 is a little more than is asked for.
(not that the b52 is exactly flat mind you, it's good to have choices and my other is an re-27)

Choices are good. I'm a slut so I'll probably get as many different kick mics as I can.

I was able to listen to a recording of some one playing around with both of them and they both sounded great. I went with the d6. After I bought it I found out that it was actually a recording of a 52 and an i5. Oh well. Took me a few goes but the d6 is amazing.

You guys are pissin me off. I got to get a D6 now. I;ve used the Beta for some time now. It is not easy to get the sound I look for in a kick, but it is acheivable with with careful placement, comp, and freq. I will probably see the same difference as the relation to the 57 and I5 on the snare. Both can acheive but the I5 to me is easier to dial in.

If I do get a D6 I will use both.

I prefer the D6 as I find the B52 a bit "poofy" if that is a word. The D6 is not THAT easy to place, you still have to spend a minute or two placing it. Though, I use a double headed kick with no hole which presents more of a challenge in placement than kicks with a hole. I do find it to work very well for most things (rock, pop, hip hop, country, etc.) Anything I would not want the D6 on (like a big band kick) I don't want a B52 on either as I would use an SM7 or LDC of some sort. Not to mention, the D6 makes a great bass cab mic... I mean amazing bass cab mic. Mix it with a DI and you have an instantly big fat bass sound... not so great for that Ramones punk bass sound (use a 57 for that) as it has too much low end and not enough pluck. But for modern bass tones ala Nathan East or Tony Levin, the D6 is the bomb diggity. Even for that muted Carol Kaye bass sound it works great. I find the D6 to be a much more versatile mic than folks give it credit for.

yea it does...i was stuck between getting a beta 52, d112, or D6 until i put a D6 on a bass cab a while back along with a sennheiser 421...the D6 smoked the sennheiser, and i knew right then that i had to have one

d112 or re20 - I never heard an audix I liked since they stated making them.

lets say i own both mics... which would you choose for the kick drum and which would you choose for the floor tom

....

I owned both, used the D6 because I had it, and liked it, but somehow it eventually became a paperweight...then I sold it...but I also have a U47fet so...

Of the four most mentioned kik drum specialty mics mentioned on here and other BBs, these being the D112, the Audix D6, the Shure Beta 52 and the ATM25, the easiest to get a very passable kikdrum sound with has got to be the D6. The most versatile and honest sound is the ATM25....The better mic for softer music would have to be the Beta, and the most one trick pony is the D112, though it does sound pretty good on a bass cabinet especially for violently loud and midrangy rock. I have never been a fan of the D112 but then I owned a D12 for years and still cant remember why I sold it.....?

My vote...D6. Even if the drum is 'iffy' it'll still sound good.
