The Echo Mia is discontinued and Guitar Center is out of them in my area (they were only $99.00 last month on closeout)

:(

So I'm narrowed down to these two audio cards.....Audiophile or Terratec.

Anyone have any last minute advice, one over the other, before I make my purchase?

Using it to record guitar and midi into Sonar.

Do you need optical digital i/o or coaxial digital i/o? Otherwise their performance is virtually identically.

There is a review and comparison of both of them at www.sospubs.co.uk

Sorry I thought you meant the terratec ewx24/96, not the dmx 6fire. My mistake. Anyway you can find reviews of the 6fire at the www.sospubs.co.uk website I mentioned. Were you referring to the 6fire or 6fireLT?

The 6fire LT has six analog outputs compared to 2 for the audiophile. That could come in handy. 6FireLT uses optical digital i/o while audiophile uses coaxial so that could affect your choice. Sound quality is virtually identical. Audiophile has a midi interface, I dont the the 6fireLT does but you already use usb midi so that probably doesnt affect you. 6FireLT uses 1/8 minijacks while audiophile uses RCA so it may be more of a hassle to get the right cables for the 6firelt (and harder to get high quality ready made cable)- but not a really big deal for most people.

I would probably go with the terratec if the optical digital i/o is not an issue (most of my other gear uses coaxial digital i/o).

hey, thanks again for your response.

I guess I keep thinking "If I buy this terratec, am I really just buying another Audigy 2 , with a different name on it?"

Specification wise, it sure seems to be a good card.
As good as the Audiophile at any rate.

The terratec is superior to the audigy2 and equivalent to an Audiophile. How much of an improvement in sound quality you notice over an audigy2 however will depend on your needs and your setup. Being able to perform recordings at 24bit 44.1 with low latency asio drivers is a big plus regardless of whatever sound quality improvement you notice.

O.K.

This card is sounding more and more like a winner all the time.

Do you have first hand experience with this card?
Any idea about the transparency for recording purposes?

Does it have a built in headphone amp so I don't have to buy anything outboard?

I see em' sold for $99 on Zsounds. I'm getting pumped up for this one now:)

Hey man, why not just get an ECHO Mia off ebay? I just sold my Audiophile 2496 and then turned around and bought a Mia. The Mia has pro level inputs (+4dbv) and balanced inputs wich the Audiophile lacks

Well, that is something I had thought about doing, but I didn't want to mess with needing a seperate headphone amp and buying a bunch of adapters to make use of the balanced inputs.

I ordered the 6fire LT this morning off of ZSounds, but I might call them back and move up the the standard 6fire with the breakout box..... not sure yet.

I'm basically just a bedroom player layering guitar tracks and midi.... so I think this might suit my needs a little better.
