I had a 3035, to much ssssssssss's on female vocals, mainly my wifes. She sounds so much better with a shiny box 23 ribbon or better yet a MXL V67. Although as a compromise I say pony up the money and get a MXL V69ME or as Harvey says the MXL 960 (same thing as a V69). I can't see how someone would be totally disappointed with the V69/960.

you got an at 3035?...**stretches and sighs** i got tha at 4040...

this is a thread i think i can fit this question into... for recording rappers and vox and saxophone in a small untreated room, which is better, the RODE NT1a or AT3035?

Nothing will be good in a small untreated room. The 3035 does have a pad though and handles alot of pressure/spl. So the person could get pretty damn close to it. That makes it so you don't have to turn the mic up as high and you capture less of the sound of the room as opposed to a mic that you have to stay a foot away from. The 3035 shines pretty good on dark voices too. I don't know alot about the nt1a except to say it gets a pretty bad rap almost universaly. I'm sure you know but a pop filter will be needed.

I think the 3035 would do well if you really want to use a condensor. I don't know that I would go that way in your case.

The horn will likely be the harder of the two as far as keeping the room out.

I would personally spend $100 on used comforters at garage sales/salvation army and get the walls covered a couple layers thick. Then get a SM57 with the other $100. It would do a fine job for rap vocals & sax. Still would need a pop filter for the vox.

F.S.

I bought a 3035 about 18 months ago. It wasn't much of a step up from the SPB1 i had been using, so i took it back and got th 4040.. The 4040 was probably the one piece of gear that i could tell really improved my overall recordings. I would wait out for the 4040, you won't regret it.
