I have a VS 840 Roland 8-Track Hard Disk Recorder...and I want to produce on a computer interface.

I'm currently looking at purchasing a M-Audio Audiophile 2496 Sound Card. Using the SPDIF Input...I should be able to get the tracks into the computer.....theoretically...

But I get the sense Roland recorders have issues with transfering into computers....am I right?

If I'm headed down the wrong path...please...make some suggestions!

Thank You.

The AP is a moderately priced but good quality card.
If the Roland has spdif out you should be fine unless there is a querk with there unit.

SPDIF will only transfer two tracks at once. If you just want to send the mix over then you will be okay. If you want to send all the tracks seperately you will need to sync them up with midi and do multiple passes.

Actually, synching w/ midi is not necessary. Just place a click track, say four beats, at the beginning of track one, copy it to all the other tracks, thentransfer the tracks by S/PDIF, 2 at a time. Then synch the click tracks manually. It's a pain in the ass, but it works. That's how we transferred my entire album from a VS1824CD to Pro Tools.-Richie
