I have a half assed setup, im recording with a usb midi interface, sonar, using a sb live computer card, decent boston acoustic speakers.
For the most part, im satisfied with what i am doing, it sounds pretty good believe it or not. But, i cant really record with a mic or a mic'd instrument with that soundcard.
I know the way to go is fast track pro, etc, but i want to keep it as simple as possible for the time being. I want to continue to use the computers speakers etc. so i am wondering if anyone uses the audiophile 2496 sound card to record, and whether that will improve the mic input situation. I dont know if there is any pre-amp to the soundcard.
Anyone using this to record, and what about mic input??

thanks

i have it, i havent used it tho, but i can tell you, youll get alot better sound out of it then your regular soundcard

the interface doesnt have a preamp, what im going to do is connect a mixer to the interface via the 4 rca plugs n then connect a mic into the mixer, since it will have a mic pre in it as well as phantom power

It'll definitely help your situation. I have a small mixer hooked up to it, since the card doesn't have pre-amps of it's own. Read around, there's a bunch of topics here about it.

EDIT: Don't cross post

lol yeah, i was like, i thought i replied to this????

did i see tha future???

...no, some kid juss cross posted...

It's a good card, but for preamps you can snag an omni studio bundled with a delta 66. or delta 44. I've seen them on ebay for 100-150 USD. the delta is from the same manufacturer and uses the same chip (ice1712) as the audiophile. The delta 44 doesn't have digital i/o, other than that they are the same.
I have an audiophile 2496 and am considering getting the delta 44 for the extra inputs. I plan to use the software mixer app.

Thanks for the info. I wasnt aware of omni studios at all, and im trying to research them. Is it a midi interface as well, or do you need to do that seperately?

It looks like i would have to modify my speaker/monitors connection. Right now its a stereo mini jack in ??

Are these older units, that is an older method than things like fast track pro?

Thanks again.

According to this, they don't have midi except for macs, but I'd look at the online manual to be sure. I don't see anything in the specs for a midi interface cable.
You don't hook speakers or headphones direct to this, or any high-end card as far as I know. It has to go to an amp, or powered speakers. RCA connectors are provided.
I don't know anything about fast track pro, sorry.
Edit - looks like the 1010LT is what you want:

This is the setup I use, and I've really liked the results I've gotten.

stupid question followup

Do these delta cards also do your computer sound work, or do you use two, the delta specific for composing?

They will replace your current sound card and allow both recording and playback for everything...recording, playing other music, computer sounds, etc.
