I just bought an m-audio audiophile soundcard and an art tube mp pre amp. i'm just wondering if anybody has a similar set up and could give me a few pointers. I've been recording for years using a different set up, still using home studio, but am very confused about this new set up.
First of all I don't seem to be getting a loud enough signal when I record, and this is with the settings on the pre amp turned up high and also on the mixer control panel for sound card. Also I'm just not getting as high quality recording as I would expect from this gear.
At the moment I only have one cable going from back of preamp to left channel of sound card XLR to 1/4 inch input (with a microphone impedance matching transformer). Will it make a difference if I get an adaptor to split to both channels? Should I be using a mono 1/4 inch trs adaptor?
I'm also wondering what are the best settings on the preamp. At the moment I have it set at filter off, limiter off, input almost all the way up and output at -12db
Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
Some more information about what equipment I'm using:
windows xp media center edition
hp pavillion athlon 64 bit dual processor
2048 mb memory
Cakewalk home studio 2004
m audio audiophile 192 pci card
art tube mp project series preamp
audio technica at 3035
On a seperate note, the pro tools demo software that came with soundcard will not work. when I try to open it it says 'cannot find m audio hardware.' Could this be an xp media center compatability problem?
Thanks.
