I have a videotaped recording of my daughter performing acappella in a school auditorium. The acoustics were not bad (with the exception of some wireless mic buzzes at one point), but obviously the recording is through the videocam mic. Is there any standard effect or trick that I can use to minimize the echoing and improve the sound of the track. I have PG Music PowerTracks, but don't know enough about the tools available to even start playing around with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dub in a lip sync version and add a little reverb.

I have never heard of anything to remove reverb, so you are stuck with the echoes, but that doesn't mean you can't try tweaking it and getting something a little better.

I would try expanding it (the opposite of compression) to make the direct sound louder than the echoes.

I've never used powertracks, but if it has effects plugins, try a compression/expansion plugin and see if there are any decent presets and go from there.

no guarentees though...

I can be more specific if you tell me what kinda plugins/effects you have.

Gating may help, but it could also make it sound pretty unnatural.

This is why it's important to record it the way you want to hear it right from the beginning!

(Don't worry - it takes YEARS for novices to learn that lesson.... most have a "record now, fix the sound later" attitude - and that game plan simply doesn't work!)
