Audio Technica vs. Sure..... David and Goliath? or David Lee Roth?

I am in the market to buy a really high quality microphone under or at least around $500. I have had my eyes set on the AT 4033a or the At-4035. I have heard that the 4033a is pretty much "industry standard" for the home recording engineer. And I have also heard the same thing about the Sure dyn. mics. Naturally on a totally different level. Considering one costs a ton and the other barely anything. And I have read about 100 million pag4es worth of research and technical data about both mics. Large Diaphram Cond. Micm vs. Dyanamic Mics, ribbon mics etc...

But I have almost 0% real life experience with recording. I need to record an acoustic guitar and use the same mike for vocal tracking.

Now what I am trying to assertain is... is there really a HUGE difference between the 2 mics? I know the obvious answer is YES... but I mean, when you compare the price difference to the performance benifits is it still NIGHT and DAY difference, or more like Night and Evening?

Also, I am living in Europe in a VERY small typical european flat on the 4th floor of a downtown Munich Appartment. I am recording in a walk in closet basically. And althought I am really worried about the shit acoustics of that jail cell... I am more worried about picking up the Hmmmmmmmmm from the computer.

Now the Sure is "surely" not powerful enough to pick that up. but is the Audio Technica?

$500 seems quite a lot for an AT 4033. But I'll assume that you're using Deutsch currency or Euros and not US$. In the US, that is a ~300$ mic. For 500$ US, I would be inclined to get a much better mic, like the Rode NTK, which is incredible. In fact, I am considering getting rid of my 4033 since it now just sits in its box gathering dust. The Rode is a far superior mic, and AT also makes better mics for that kind of money. And yes, a nice condenser mic will pick up everything in your room. It picks up running water in another room, the water heater turning off, cars driving by... try recording late at night, and surrounding your object of sound with pillows, boxes, and blankets.

Hell, with $500, buy a Studio Projects C1 and a Shure SM57, and you've got both a great dynamic, and a nice sounding LD condenser, AND $200 left to spend on pillows and rugs to surround those noisy objects.

Yeah, I'm with Queue, get the C1 and a 57 and then with the extra $200 get a decent preamp like an Art MP ($99) or a Presonus Blue Tube ($150).
