I always find the mic and preamp samples interesting and helpful. So, I would like to contribute some samples and I hope someone finds them helpful. The singer was 6" to 8" away from the mics on all test and no EQ or compression. I used a AW4416 to record the tracks. I included the sm-57 for reference, because it sounds amazing through the GR. (random order also) I will be glad to post the order in a couple of days. Mics and preamps used:

GR MP-1NV
RNP
SM-57
AT4047
AT4050
AT4040

The first 4 tracks are using the GR the Last 4 using the RNP.

I love these threads :)

I liked #4 at the beginning and #3 at the end. Overall I liked #4. Didn't like #1 at all. #2 is OK.

So I'll guess:

1: 4040
2: 4050
3: SM57
4: 4047

What the Hell, I'm prolly way off but here goes....

1. 4047
2. 4050
3. 4040
4. 57

Great River
track #1 4050
track #2 4047
track #3 4040
track #4 SM57

RNP
track #5 4047
track #6 4050
track #7 4040
track #8 SM57

Ha ha! 57 wins for me! Makes sense because the source was so dynamic, the condensers just sounded over the top.

Still, I thought I'd be genetically predisposed to like the 4047

I thought the 4050 was the most honest / least flattering of the bunch. The 4047 was the silkiest and had the most proximity effect, and the 4040 had greater clarity. The 57 was the least 'polished' of the bunch, but then it is a 57, and it sounded fine.

i thought 7 sounded the nicest but definately not the flattest.

not very nice

Sorry, but what terrible singing.... Ouch...

I think she has a nice voice. That is a tough situation for a singer. No music and completely dry.

my wife is from Harlan, KY and yes you are right it can sound rough with no music or verb. Thanks for the support, singing all those tracks was not her Idea of fun, but I told her it was for a greater good (you don't want to hear me sing)! lol
