Audio Technica AT2035 Condenser Microphone question ...

Another point I'd like to make before we all disappear is the value and versatility of the stage vocal condenser mics that are increasingly available. AT have recently packaged the AT2020 into the AT2010 for the stage vocal thing.
It means that you have a mic that will do fine for your studio vocal and instrument use but can also travel to the gig if you have phantom available.
The AT2010 is only $80 on ebay.... It'd be worth checking out I would think.

I have two of their stage vocal mics: The Ae3300 which is a repackaging of the 4033A (Very Nice) and the discontinued ATM89R .... both of which are great mics for studio vocals and ac. guitar etc. but also really well set up for taking to the gig instead of a 58 etc.

I guess you can tell I like AT mics....Good bang for the buck...

The At2010 could be really handy if you were tracking a whole band in the studio with live vocal. Which I do from time to time for cover band demos, old style blues, Jazz etc.

I will have to get one and try it out. Can't find any cheap sellers in Oz yet.

Cheers
Alan.

I've bought three AT mics from the US through ebay and had no trouble. You can ask for US First Class postage which makes it cheaper.

I know it's been a while, but with the AU$ almost matching the US$ I bought a AT2010 from the US.

Tried it last night, got very good results. I idea of getting one of these was to have on hand when a band wanted a live recording in the studio and also doing all the vocals live as well, usually a quick demo recording. When doing this to reduce spill as my usual arsenal of studio condensers pick up the whole band too easily, I have been using SM58's up to now, well the AT2010 sounds better.

I may have to buy in another 1 or 2 of these. They could also be very useful when doing a singer that also plays acoustic guitar at the same time.

Cheers

Hi Alan...Love that dollar parity... I can see a few bits of gear coming my way..... As I said if you ask for First Class Postage it makes it almost local rates.

The stage vocals are a relatively untapped source of good studio quality mics that go for very reasonable prices on ebay... even the 2nd hand ones seem to be worth getting.... especially the fairly indestructable AT range.

Here's a review I posted a while back of the Ae3300, a little known mic that I had assumed was an LDC, but I've since realised that it's a medium capsule.... It works well on the ac. instruments as well because of that.

Also it would be worth you trying your new AT2010 on ac. instruments. As Don Kelley said earlier.... "the 2020 is a great mic, especially great for acoustic guitar. it's a medium or small diaphram electret condensor and has a terrific tone for certain things. none of the 30 or 40 series mics sound quite like it, and if it's the tone you like on guitar then it's the mic you need, whether or not it's a budget mic."

I use my ATM-89R on guitar all the time. It's got a great sound. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_articles/sep97/a_tatm89r.html

I'm up near Katoomba. Cheers Michael
