alright..i was recomended this..i only do hip/hop vocals and my engineer told me this was a great mic for male vocals... it goes for like $300....my rig is probably going to be the M-AUDIO FIREWIRE SOLO connected 2 my PC..is this mic good or should i maybe try another mic??

I have a 4040 and really like it for myself. It seems to be pretty transparent, and easy to use.

i use the 3035, and man do i love it! i'm sure the 4040 is even better.

im a hip hop artist too, looking to upgrade mics, i was thiking about going with the 4050 but its lota $

so i might go with the 4040 like u said

ya i think i gotta give the 4040 a try..i use a blue baby bottle at my engineers studio so i hope it will give me some decent sound....thanx 4 the feedback everybody... more comments, suggestions welcome

Yeah man the AT4040 is a great mic, clear, very sensitive. If a moth farts in the room it will definitely be heard loud and clear! :D
Go get one man!

is it mainly good for male vocals or will it do justice to female vocals as well?

(i'm thinking about getting a pair.)

in my experience it works best on people who have thinner or naisley voices,
(makes them sound a bit bigger)
someone who already has a big voice will find that this mic sometimes lacks some "mid focus" that helps to put a voice on top of the mix.

YMMV and all that.

i only have one, but would love to try them as ovrs.
(they for some reason seem to me like they would accell at that.)

i love this forum..i love u guys and gals..thanks for the feedback

Just got my 4040 today. After playing with it for about a half hour, I'm not disapointed at all. It's a nuetral mic to me, I was using a KSM27... To me they sound similar but different...lol Both are pretty transparend, I however think the highs on the shure were a bit smoother. 4040 is a reccomended mic and I see why.
