I have Cubase 5 and am thinking about getting Ableton. I am also thinking of getting a bass guitar to sample myself. I am still a college student, so I would like to get equipment that is on the cheaper end, but I really do want something with good/great quality, that will last. I value quality, but still keep price in mind.
1) I am not too sure how audio interfaces work. If I want good quality sounding music, should I get one? If so, what kind?
2) What type of interface should I get for the bass guitar to connect to the sequencer (Cubase)?
3) What is the difference between an audio interface and a recording interface?
4) Could an interface that I would plug a bass guitar in double up as an audio interface? Does this one seem to do it?

5) How would one go about learning basic mastering?
6) Would one have to render out each track separately and then put back in a program to master a song?
7) Would Cubase or Ableton be sufficient enough to master a song or would one have to get a new program specifically for mastering?
One day with a lot of luck and hard work I hope to sound something like this:

or

Please tell me if there's anything I missed, should know about, or if you have any related tips. Thanks in advance.
